“Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep, so your poverty will come like a stalker, and your need as an armed man” (Proverbs 24:33-34, MEV). Laziness is a HORRIBLE thing and it is something that every single human being naturally leans toward. NOT because we want rest, but because our flesh is SELFISH and wants to be IDLE. Not just not toiling (which is a curse), but not working either (a godly thing to do). And not over-working or working to the bone. Not working AT ALL. Our flesh wants to sit IDLE, produce NOTHING, and consume EVERYTHING IT CAN. It is THE WORST attitude and one HUNDRED percent ungodly. When we indulge that attitude, poverty can get at us. Poverty is like walking in a bad neighbourhood and exploring dark alleys. The more you indulge the behaviour, the more chance you have to experience robbery. Poverty is the same thing. God gave us the ability to prosper and increase through work (again, not overwork or toil). When we refuse to even TRY to do it, we are indulging poverty. We are opening the door to a sudden experience that will leave us in sorrow. Laziness is more than not working. It is refusing God’s system for profitable living. It is despising God’s point of view and what He says is right and good. He warns us against it again and again. He empowers us to avoid it. He equips us to overcome it. He walks beside us encouraging us. All we need to do is follow Him to avoid it. He has given us a spirit of self-control (2 Timothy 1:7). Because of Him, we NEVER need to give into poverty!
