Fear No Fear

“You will make known to me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand there are pleasures for evermore” (Psalm 16:11, MEV). We want FAST service. We want near-INSTANT access to what we desire. And we want it to be the BEST of the BEST. We disdain cheaply made things. We loathe waiting. Things we complain about as ‘slow’ today our ancestors would be astonished at. They would be amazed at the quality that we have been able to achieve in our products. God knows what we want. What we like. What brings us pleasure. He isn’t against it. He only wants good things for us. But He wants good things that are also ACCEPTABLE TO HIM. We rarely see it that way because of the stereotype of godly living that we have created for ourselves. Dry, dowdy, and abstinent. The reality is quite different. The reality is that all the BEST things are God’s things. All the pleasurable things that NEVER harm us are God’s things or things done God’s way. It doesn’t matter WHAT it is, God knows how to do it properly. He ONLY keeps from us things that HARM us. It is OUR broken thinking that lets us even entertain the idea that harm is pleasurable. It ISN’T. Not really. Only broken thinking lets it be so. God is about us having the BEST THINGS of life ALL THE TIME. Yes, it doesn’t eliminate troubles and persecutions because of Jesus. No, we won’t have perfectly peaceful lives. That isn’t reality in a fallen creation. But we won’t have things that hurt us. We won’t participate in things that are ungodly. And we will have the VERY best of the VERY best. Because ALL GOOD THINGS come from God and are reserved for those who love Him.
