Dip the Toe: Song of Songs/Song of Solomon 5-8 “Not Far”

(All scripture from Lexham English Bible, Copyright 2012 Logos Bible Software)

Chapter five is about the bride’s regret about making excuses not to see the bridegroom when he came for her, ultimately walking away because of her disinterest. She searches for him and gives a lengthy description of all the good features and the character that she doesn’t want to lose.

Chapter six is the ‘return’ of the man who never went far away and HIS description of the bride he is so besotted with. He views her as above all the others of the city, all the other women he has known or seen.

Chapter seven is a further examination of what she means to him. She then responds with adoration for his adoration of her. She is grateful for having his affection and takes peace and security from the immovability of his view of her.

Chapter eight is a confirmation of their connection with each other. There is also a joint declaration to take under their wing the little sister of the bride and shepherd her into maturity, giving the benefit of their experience to her. Thought the bride and bridegroom will be apart for a short while, they will communicate and come together very soon.
