Dip the Toe: Ecclesiastes 5-8 “Value of Cooperation”

(All scripture from Lexham English Bible, Copyright 2012 Logos Bible Software)

Chapter five is about watching our words. Both in and of themselves and ESPECIALLY in how we speak to God. He is GOD and if we make a promise, we need to keep it. We need to be careful what we agree to, because there is a natural expectation that He WILL hold us to about us fulfilling what we say. He is generous and merciful, but we MUST be careful to be faithful to our words. It is also about the satisfaction that only Jesus can bring and about us not being so concerned about unjustices that we witness (the ones we see and can in no way prevent) because those who are ‘getting away with it’ now will pay a price sooner or later. No one escapes true justice.

Chapter six is about the emptiness of riches and the very real danger riches have to corrupt our thinking. That isn’t to say that being poor is good or wealthy is bad. It is about always keeping GOD as your source and number one priority so that we can have wealth without wealth having us. The things of the Kingdom and our right relationship with God are VASTLY more important that what possessions we do and do not have here on earth.

Chapter seven is about the value there is in viewing life and participating in life according to God’s morals and standards. The benefits that happen just from cooperating with Him on everything. The good things that happen, the benefits we gain, and the overall whole person prosperity (spirit, soul, body, relational, emotional, material) that we have access to in and through Jesus when we make God our Source and counsellor in every aspect of our lives.

Chapter eight is about the value there is in trusting God. We cannot see what He sees. We cannot know what He knows. There are times when we are to trust because He is trustworthy – not because we understand OR because we have had the situation explained to us. We might be dealing with something totally beyond us, but when we rely on Him and look to Him for our direction, we can be safe in the boat beside Jesus instead of being lashed by the wind and waves. EVERYTHING that can be a problem CAN ALSO be reduced to a situation in the Light of HIS Life (2 Corinthians 4:17).
