“If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself” (2 Timothy 2:13, MEV). God kept His covenant with the Israelites even when the Israelites didn’t keep their side of it. Again and again in the Old Covenant we see God working to get the people to repent, to get the people to turn back to Him, to get the people to be faithful to the covenant. Whole BOOKS are about that. Over hundreds of years He talked to them and pleaded with them to comply for their own benefit. During that time, He still came to their rescue. He still raised judges to protect and lead them. He still honoured the covenant He had with them over the Land and their presence in it. How much MORE is He going to be faithful to us when we miss it? Is He going to lash out at us? NO! That would be TOTALLY against His character. He will IMMEDIATELY start working on our hearts so that we will accept His correction. He will IMMEDIATELY work on getting us choosing to repent so that He can forgive and forget. He is FAITHFUL. He will NOT go against His character. And He is SO VERY PATIENT. Stop thinking He is mad at you. He is seeking to correct our wrongdoing and bad steps/decisions for OUR benefit. So WE can experience the fullness of what He has for us. Even in correction, He is trying to get good things into our hands AND He is with us every step of our journey. He loves us SO MUCH. Don’t assume He is mad when He corrects you. Realize He is loving you ALL THE MORE because it is in His character. Submit to the correction, seek not to repeat it, take the opportunity to walk in GRACE and MERCY – learning and embracing the same hatred toward sin that He has. Embrace righteous living in Jesus (2 Corinthians 5:21), not floundering around in our own thinking (Romans 12:2). He LOVES you and wants to see you on His Way, not stumbling outside where we can experience full BLESSING. He loves you and is FAITHFUL in that love. It’s His character. He is SO GOOD to us.
