Ruach HaKodesh “Which Socket?”

(All scripture from Lexham English Bible, Copyright 2012 Logos Bible Software)

And I will bless those who bless you, and those who curse you I will curse. And all families of the earth will be blessed in you.

Genesis 12:3

When Adonai gives us a promise, at the back of the promise is His character. It is a picture in sentence structure to show us a principle of who He is and how He operates. When Abraham was given covenant, he was given a promise. Blessing begat blessing and cursing begat cursing. This reflects Adonai’s character and how He operates. When we bless Adonai, we enable blessing. When we don’t bless Adonai, we disable blessing. How do we apply that principle day-to-day, because let’s face facts. We are WORKING on blessing Adonai constantly, but we aren’t there yet. Some of us are still working on CONSISTENTLY. It’s a journey. But if you look at what blessing and cursing are based on, we can apply it daily as we interact with Ruach HaKodesh, no matter where on the blessing Adonai journey we are.

To bless is to love. When we LOVE, we are blessing. To love is to submit. It is to put yourself in a subordinate position and put the other in the superior position. Not in a domineering way, a master-slave way, or an authoritarian power trip. But you put their needs before yours. You do your best to help them become the best you they can be – without neglecting yourself, which would limit your ability to assist them. You’re helping them BE them, not telling them to be something. You’re SUPPORTING, ENCOURAGING, and helping THEM develop THEMSELVES. With Adonai, we don’t need to help Him do anything with Himself. What we NEED to do is to submit to His PERFECTION and COOPERATE with His will. That often means putting ourselves, our wants, and our desires into second place while we let Him lead in first place. It doesn’t mean losing out on the things we enjoy. We get to keep all the things that are GOOD (they’re from Him anyway – James 1:17). It’s about priorities and being in a place to enjoy fully the GOOD things without anything interfering with what Adonai wants to do (in us and around us).

To curse is to despise. It is abhorring, loathing, and disdaining. It is refusing to do that thing because that thing is abhorrent to us. Many children and at least one President put broccoli in that category. They don’t DO broccoli. Broccoli is abhorrent to them. Unfortunately, we often will find ourselves putting Adonai in that category. Specifically, what Adonai tells us to do. It isn’t enough to find out something by investigating the Word. We also need to submit to the Word and to follow through by being obedient to the things we find. To do ANYTHING but apply them to our lives is to DESPISE them, which is cursing. When we do that, we open the door to the curse in our lives. And like any good weed, once the curse comes in one way, it tries its best to spread to other areas.

We need to actively choose to align with Adonai (Romans 12:2). We need to actively choose NOT to despise the things of Adonai – even if we aren’t ‘feeling’ them or agree with them (1 Thessalonians 5:20-21). Adonai knows what He is about at ALL times in ALL circumstances and ALL situations without reservation. This is what Jesus did when He was on Earth as a man with a mission. He worked to ONLY glorify the Father. THAT was His main business (Luke 2:49). He accomplished it by CHOOSING to be obedient. To do ANYTHING else would have been to deny His nature. He denied His in-and-of-himself identity. He didn’t try to follow HIS wants. He chose to follow the FATHER’s wants (John 5:19; 12:49). He was sinless and had perfect communication with the Father through Ruach HaKodesh. We don’t. But we DO have Ruach HaKodesh within us. What we lack in perfect communication we have in the Word: Jesus’ perfect example. As we choose to retrain our minds to His thinking, and as we apply His example to our lives, we get more and more perfect in Him (2 Corinthians 3:18). We have to choose it and we have to work to maintain our focus on Him. We cannot do it alone. It’s a question of which socket we’re plugged into: the obedience (blessing) or the disobedience (curse).

We have many opportunities in our lives to despise Adonai’s point of view. It’s not hard to do because we haven’t spent a lifetime under His teaching. We were born in Sin. We had broken thinking and learned broken ways. We need perfect ways to learn from and perfect thinking to train ourselves to. Ruach HaKodesh is with us to provide us with both of those things. He is our teacher and our guide as we choose to learn about Jesus’ love for us. As we choose to learn what love is: obedience to His will, submission to His authority, acknowledgement of His lordship over us, and cooperation with His plans. When we give ourselves to that kind of love, by choosing to practise it on a daily basis, growing in our use more and more, then we will bless Adonai more and more. When we bless Him, the BLESSING flows.

Daily Affirmation of the Goodness of Elohim: Matthew 5:44-45

But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 in order that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven, because he causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust.” Adonai cannot HELP but give. It is His heart. He gave us the world. He gave us all of everything He made. And He continues to give. He can’t help Himself. Giving good things is part of who He is. It’s His nature. Withholding is not His nature. Giving bad things is not His nature. Adonai gives to EVERYONE in order for them to see and recognise His goodness. He gave to everyone when everyone was wicked. He gives even more to those who seek Him, but even the WICKED get the rain and warmth that they need to survive. He never stops trying. He never stops showing. He never stops working to win their hearts. He loves us SO much. What a GOOD God!
