Dip the Toe: 2 Chronicles 29-31 “Hezekiah, Man of God”

(All scripture from Lexham English Bible, Copyright 2012 Logos Bible Software)

Hezekiah became king when he was twenty-five years old, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. And the name of his mother was Abijah the daughter of Zechariah. And he did that which was right in the eyes of Yahweh, according to all that David his father had done. In the first year of his kingship, in the first month, he opened the doors of the house of Yahweh and strengthened them.” (2 Chronicles 29:1-3)

Chapter twenty-nine is the beginning of Hezekiah’s rule. He was a true man of God. In the first year that he was king he dealt with the Temple. That is where he started. He got the priests and the Levites together and opened up the Temple. He had them cleanse it and ready it for use according to what God laid down in the Law. When they had done that, he restored proper worship in the Temple. With worship and music and sacrifices and proper attitude, the Temple was again running as it should have been – and the people rejoiced with him.

Chapter thirty shows Hezekiah continuing to restore proper worship. Word is sent all over the country and even to all of Israel calling the people to worship in Jerusalem. They restored the feasts, starting with the Passover. There was great rejoicing when they did and many of the people of Israel and Judah attended. They worshipped god together and prayed to Him with one heart.

Chapter thirty-one shows us that proper worship is what creates proper revival. We don’t have revival in order to worship. We worship and revival follows. People broke down the idols, the sacred poles, and the high places. They began tithing again. The Temple was taken care of with much left over. Storehouses were made to hold it. Divisions were made and people placed in charge of it. Every need was set up to be filled, and all of it because God was so good to them. They were aligning themselves with Him, and the BLESSING was flowing because they were in that proper place to be.

And Hezekiah did according to this throughout all Judah. And he did what is good and what is right and what is faithful before Yahweh his God. And in every work that he began in the service of the house of God or with respect to the law and the commandment to seek his God, he did with all his heart, and he prospered.” (2 Chronicles 31:20-21)
