“Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth” (Psalm 46:10, MEV). All of my kids had secrets. Very, VERY important secrets. But they wouldn’t speak them. They would ONLY whisper them. REALLY quietly. And if I didn’t stop everything, I would miss it. If I asked them to repeat themselves, they’d speak even quieter. They wanted my attention. They wanted me to STOP and listen to their little, tiny, whispery, so important secrets. None of them was really worth the time in and of themselves. Secrets like they like a particular colour. Or they have fuzzy socks. But every so often, they’d tell me their biggest ‘secret’: they loved me. THAT one was worth the time. It was wonderful to hear. You never get tired of it. We whisper to people to keep things private. We whisper to make sure that they understand us. No one listens to yells. Not really. But we LISTEN to whispers. There is VALUE in a whisper. We feel that there is value in whispers because God so often speaks quietly. It’s part of our DNA: quiet voices have value. The devil doesn’t have volume control. He couldn’t whisper if he tried. He is always LOUD. He’s a nagger. But God can be quiet. Soft. To help us focus our minds. To STOP so that He has our attention. He speaks soft and speaks VALUED things. He speaks TRUTH. And when we are REALLY quiet, and REALLY still, we will hear the MOST important truth: He loves us. It’s wonderful. It never gets old. He LOVES us. Be still. Take a moment to be quiet. You’ll hear it. Because He does. He LOVES you.
