“We know that God does not listen to sinners. But if anyone is a worshipper of God and does His will, He hears him” (John 9:31, MEV). My kids won’t shut up. They really won’t. There are SO MANY WORDS, which is of course magnified because there are quite a few of them. Thing is, they rarely say anything of importance. They talk about the stupidest things (the apple doesn’t fall far as I have been known to speak my own more-than-fair-share of twaddle). Or – my favourite – they narrate to me an event that recently happened THAT I WAS THERE FOR. But these things are VERY important to THEM. They need me to hear these words. A couple of the kids seem to not view something as having really happened unless they get the chance to explain/describe it. When I am caught up in the throes of these MANY words, I think about God. How does GOD receive most of our prayers and petitions? How often are we really talking to Him and how often are we narrating to Him or just speaking words? How often is He smiling and nodding and wondering when we will get to the point? NEVER. God is INFINITELY patient, loving, kind, gentle, and OUR FATHER. He is the parent who is letting us talk because WE need to talk. He is the parent who gives us His attention because He likes showing us that we matter. That we’re important. Even when we’re saying things HE already knows. God LOVES us and LOVES to talk with us. He LOVES to hear from us and to fellowship with us. He is our loving Father, and lets us get off our chests what we feel we need off of them. The Lord gives us room to speak. It’s a privilege we should NEVER let go of. We should ALWAYS be speaking to Him. Amen.
