“The Lord has appeared to him from afar, saying: Indeed, I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you” (Jeremiah 31:3, MEV). God likes us. He LIKES being around us. He wants US to like being around HIM. This is classic romance stuff. In context, this is God calling out to His people during a time of judgment. During a time when they had hardened their hearts, refused to repent, and essentially insisted on the consequences of their actions. In the middle of those consequences, God is STILL calling to them and telling them of His love. Telling them they could choose to repent. To return to Him. That He was still there desiring their fellowship. They could take the punitive consequences and turn them into redemptive consequences. They could learn THE lesson: in God is life and protection, outside of God is death and suffering. God tells us that again and again (Deuteronomy 30:19; Proverbs 18:21; John 10:10; Romans 6:23). God LIKES us. God chose to LOVE us. God wants to FELLOWSHIP with us. That is what eternal life really is. It isn’t some hanging around clouds with harps boring existence. It is KNOWING God intimately. FELLOWSHIPPING with God INTIMATELY. And it starts when YOU start knowing Him (John 17:3). You don’t have to wait. You can start TODAY. Join into fellowship with your LOVING God and start living eternally, now.
