“How shall a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Your word” (Psalm 119:9, MEV). If we love Jesus, we will seek to make Jesus smile. To make Him happy. Because we ALWAYS seek to see a smile on the faces of those we love. Bringing joy to a loved one is an experience that cannot be beat. The Word tells us that when we love Jesus – which is a natural result of knowing how much He loves us (1 John 4:19; Ephesians 3:14-19) – we will find ourselves obeying Him (John 14:15). So when we know His love, we obey Him. Psalm 119 is an ode to the Word. Through the Psalm we are taught that it is by the Word that we come to know God’s love for us. The more we love God, the more we trust God (Romans 10:17). And we gain that love and trust through the Word. It is through the WORD that we learn of Jesus’ love for us. Knowledge of the Word is how we learn to love Him. It is how we learn what obeying Him means. It is how we align ourselves with His point of view and His morality. It is how we see TRUTH. It is how we keep ourselves pure. The more Word we get into ourselves, the more of the garbage comes out. The more we see, acknowledge, and submit to the Lord’s point of view (the ONLY truly objective point of view that exists), the more of Him and His Way we get inside. THAT is the key to righteous living. Get as much of the Word into us because the Word IS the Lord and the Lord IS His Word (John 1:1-5). The more we get in, the better we will be. The easier living life will be, because God is THE SOURCE of Life (John 10:10). The Word is a great gift to us. It shows us just how much God LOVES us. It is a treasure, and we should treat it as one. A precious treasure.
