Daily Affirmation #304

I experienced that there is nothing better for them than to be glad and do good in their life. And also that everyone should eat and drink and experience good in all their labor. This is a gift of God” (Ecclesiastes 3:12-13, MEV). Work is a gift of God. It’s weird to think of it. So much of our lives is ordered around the idea of resting. Of NOT working. Living for the weekends. Dreaming of retirement. Grabbing the golden parachute when it’s presented to us. But God has plans for this world and we’re allowed to participate in them (1 Corinthians 3:9). That’s HUGE. It becomes something more than work. It becomes a mission. A calling. A benefit and a BLESSING. Work isn’t exhausting. TOIL is exhausting. Work is a privilege and a revitalizing aspect of our core humanity. When work stops, our vitality starts to fade as well. There’s something to be said about partnering with God throughout our entire lives. Working right to the end – though that does NOT mean a 9-5 job. Work is so much more than a JOB or a PAYCHEQUE. It’s a PARTNERSHIP with God getting accomplished what HE wants to accomplish. Like children allowed to help with their parents’ projects, hobbies, and upkeep; we are allowed to partner with our loving Father to bring about the best. To help Him do the things He wants. He loves us and wants us to cooperate with Him. To work with Him. And that truly IS a gift.
