Daily Affirmation #308

Listen closely, no one who walks an impure path of uncontrolled desires participates in the good road of the Chosen One and the Great Spirit. The ones who walk in this way follow lying spirits that take them down a dark path, far from the sacred ways of the Great Spirit” (Ephesians 5:5, FNV). This is how you know godly prosperity from a ‘prosperity gospel’. It isn’t about things. It doesn’t matter if you have new vehicles, a big house, good clothes, take trips, and have stuff. God doesn’t care if you have stuff. He would LIKE us to enjoy life. But it is all about whether we are walking in devotion to Him or whether we have uncontrolled desires. When we have God first, the stuff doesn’t matter. We could have it. We could just as easily and joyfully give it away to someone who needs it if God asked. We HAVE stuff, but we don’t LOVE the stuff. It’s just stuff. Equipment to live a life holy to God. To be an example of His BLESSING and to BE a blessing to all those around us. To be generous, gracious, and merciful. Not to amass for acquisition’s sake or to let any of it take our eyes off Jesus. No one who believes that God is against lack would take ANY possession or ANY AMOUNT of possessions in place of a relationship with God. God WILL prosper you. But it will be so you can bless others and draw them to Him. It will be so you can be in a place to be a good example of His loving kindness. It will be so you are a WITNESS to such a GOOD God. It will be a means to spread His ends. It will always be God-centred. It will always be second place. And we will ALWAYS be satisfied with what we have (since He gave it to us) whether we are seeking improvement of our situation or happy to have arrived where we are. We don’t grasp for everything out there. We have self control (2 Timothy 1:7). We’re not seeking to satisfy our passions (James 4:3). We’re seeking to follow God, put Him first, and do what HE says, when HE says, and how He says. To be a blessing even as we enjoy GODLY desires. Obedient children because we love Him so much and know that He loves us too.
