“I rejoice at Your word, as one who finds great plunder” (Psalm 119:162, MEV). I sometimes have an issue. The family decides that it’s movie night or I am alone and think that it might be nice to watch something. And in both situations I’ll start going down the list of what’s available. Physical media, digital media we own, and them stuff we could stream. I’ve been into films and animations since I was a kid, so the list is pretty long. Even with a long list, I find myself a step removed. Yeah, I like that but… Yeah, I could watch that but… Yeah, they’ll enjoy this one but… And I find that in the end, I’m much more interested and satisfied to open the Word and read something from it. When I’m alone, I usually abandon the screens and start reading. When it’s the group, I’ll pick something for them and sit in the room with them – but I’ll be reading on my tablet and not really watching. I have a fascination with the Word. It draws me. It satisfies me. It’s like the world is a little dimmer if the Word isn’t illuminating it. It can be enjoying a biography in it. It can be watching Jesus about His Father’s business. It can be praising through the Psalms and wisdom from Proverbs. Or it can be drawing insight and guidance from the explanation of the Gospel in the letters of the early church. There is always something exciting going on. And it always satisfies. I am never disappointed. There is vivid life in the Word and I cannot get enough of it. It’s a great issue to have and it is never a problem. The Word stirs up my spirit and brings new dimensions to the ongoing conversation with God that I have through it. It is a WONDERFUL gift He has given us. It is a living reminder of how much He loves us.
