Daily Affirmation #327

that your charitable deeds may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly” (Matthew 6:4, MEV). We are what we do when we’re alone. You’ve probably heard that one before. The idea is that when no one is around. When no one is looking. When no one could possibly call us out. What we do in those moments is who we really are. Well, if that is true then we can all take heart because we serve a God who is there for us in those moments. He’s not there peeping in on us, nanny camming us, waiting to strike us down. He’s right there in the trenches with us. There for us to rely on. There for us to lean into. There for us to consult. God is not a God of being far away. God is a God of drawing us close. Of meeting us where we are so that He can lift us up. He is there with us in the secret places calling us into THE secret place: Jesus. The place where we rest from OUR labours and let Jesus take the burdens, the concerns, the anxieties. Where we can rely on Him instead of having to do it all ourselves. Where we can align ourselves with His point of view and cooperate with everything He has going on. God is there with us in the quiet, in the alone, so that we never EVER have to rely on ourselves. God is there so that we can be so much more than someone no one can see. What a GREAT thing it is to serve a living, LOVING God.
