Now when God made his promise to Abraham, since he could swear by no one greater, he swore by himself
The angel of the Lord called to Abraham a second time from heaven and said, “I solemnly swear by my own name, decrees the Lord, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, I will indeed bless you, and I will greatly multiply your descendants so that they will be as countless as the stars in the sky or the grains of sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the strongholds of their enemies. Because you have obeyed me, all the nations of the earth will pronounce blessings on one another using the name of your descendants.”
Hebrews 6:13 & Genesis 22:16-18 (emphasis added)
In the old covenant Elohim is always singular in the plural sense. In the new covenant Elohim is singular in the plural sense. It is a shift from looking in from the outside to looking out from the inside. That is why it is a superior covenant. It is not a covenant between Elohim and humanity. It is a covenant between Elohim and Elohim – but we know a guy, so we have an ‘in’. What makes it superior is the perfection that exists within it. Which is something lacking from ANY covenant made with humanity.
“God made the one who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that in him we would become the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:21). “For we do not have a high priest incapable of sympathizing with our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in every way just as we are, yet without sin” (Hebrews 4:15). This is the persistent message spoken in Jesus’ persistent voice from Genesis to Revelation: our identity is found in Messiah Jesus. It isn’t a secret. It isn’t kept from us. The Law was given to show us that we are steeped in sin and selfishness. They are our inherited condition from Adam. Adam and Eve mated and passed down the flaws inherent in their physical and Spirit DNA. The Law shows us this. We’re told Do Not and we say Oh Yeah and then do the things. We NEED a saviour to redeem us. Jesus is THE redeemer – but we need to see Him as that in our lives. Our broken thinking needs healing. It is not US struggling to believe and trust and get Heaven to move and earn His favour and get Him to heal or bless or whatever. “Therefore we must progress beyond the elementary instructions about Christ and move on to maturity, not laying this foundation again: repentance from dead works and faith in God, teaching about ritual washings, laying on of hands, resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment” (Hebrews 6:1-2). We have learned from Jesus Himself to leave behind the meaningless efforts to please Adonai. They are NOT what brings us into harmony with Him. They are NOT what brings His works into our lives. The windows of Heaven are open to us (Malachi 3:10). In Jesus, we get to experience the breeze that comes out of them. Outside of Jesus, we have nothing but stuffy air (John 15:5).
“We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, sure and steadfast, which reaches inside behind the curtain, where Jesus our forerunner entered on our behalf, since he became a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek” (Hebrews 6:19-20). The Levitical priesthood (Deuteronomy 18:1-8) was based on the Law – among other things to teach us that a sacrifice is necessary to redeem us and pure blood the requirement to wash us clean. Jesus’ priesthood is NOT Levitical but Melchizedekial, having come before (Genesis 14:18-20). Aaron (Exodus 40:12-15) was made high priest of the Levitical system. Jesus was the FIRST and only HIGH priest of the Melchizedekial line. It is a spiritual priesthood, based in Heaven, and dealing/interacting with the real Most Holy Place and not the type and shadow that existed here on Earth (Exodus 25:40; Hebrews 8:5; Revelation 11:19). “But now Christ has come as the high priest of the good things to come. He passed through the greater and more perfect tent not made with hands, that is, not of this creation, and he entered once for all into the Most Holy Place not by the blood of goats and calves but by his own blood, and so he himself secured eternal redemption” (Hebrews 9:11-12). Jesus offered His body and poured out His blood ONCE for ALL time and ALL people (Hebrews 10:10). He did away with the Elohim-human covenant which was imperfect on our side (Hebrews 10:9), in order to establish a PERFECT covenant between Himself and Himself – because there was no one else perfect to establish it with. That perfection completed the covenant and dealt with sin forever. “For by one offering he has perfected for all time those who are made holy. And the Holy Spirit also witnesses to us, for after saying, “This is the covenant that I will establish with them after those days, says the Lord. I will put my laws on their hearts and I will inscribe them on their minds,” then he says, “Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no longer.” Now where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin” (Hebrews 10:14-18). When we are inside that covenant, sin is eliminated and is no longer a factor in ANYTHING that is done.
“And after taking the cup and giving thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you, for this is my blood, the blood of the covenant, that is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins” (Matthew 26:27-28). “And in the same way he took the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood”” (Luke 22:20). “In the same way, he also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, every time you drink it, in remembrance of me.”” (1 Corinthians 11:25). The Blood of Jesus IS what the New Covenant is written in. Nowhere in anything Jesus said to His disciples are we mentioned as participants of the covenant. We are PARTAKERS of what was done. It’s like bread. When it is brought to the table we are not the yeast, the flour, or the fluid. But we can partake of what was made. We digest it and make it part of who we are. We aren’t bread, but the bread is us. In the same way, we partake of the New Covenant and we are not in the covenant, Jesus’ covenant is in us. When we abide in Jesus, we abide in and by the covenant. When we do not abide in Jesus, we are out of covenant. Trust in Jesus is trust in the covenant. Choosing not to trust in Jesus is rebelling against the covenant. It is rejecting the covenant. It is sin. We no longer have a sinful nature. Sin is no longer part of our makeup. But we can choose to sin by rejecting covenant. Everything that isn’t choosing trust in Jesus is rebelling against trust in Jesus (Romans 14:23).
This is very important. If WE are not participants but partakers, OUR efforts have NOTHING to do with the Covenant relationship. We can’t add to it. We can’t damage it or take anything away from it. It has nothing to do with us. Thank Adonai for that! The pressure is OFF. We can’t manage it has been replaced by let me do it for you. He has done all the work. He did it before Creation (Genesis 2:2-3; Ephesians 2:10; Revelation 13:8). Jesus had to learn to obey as a man walking in harmony with the Will of the Father in all things in order to seal the covenant in His blood. He did (John 19:30; Matthew 28:18-20). He wrote it out. Now we copy and paste. We take what He did and we get to apply it to our own lives through Him. We can’t do it on our own or by our strength. We CAN do it through Him. The point of the covenant was to provide redemption. We’re redeemed from iniquity. We’re redeemed from the bondage of self-will. We’re redeemed from a vain and empty way of living. We were redeemed with the view of delivering us to liberty. Forgiven, justified, washed clean, and restored to wholeness. Why? Because Jesus is exactly that. And as He is, so can we be in this life (1 John 4:17). Jesus IS our Redeemer (Isaiah 47:4; Galatians 3:13-15). He states it Himself. “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost” (Luke 19:10). ANYTHING we have lost; ANYTHING that comes short of perfect harmony with Yahweh Elohim Almighty and His plan for His Creation; ANYTHING that isn’t GOOD in the sight of Adonai from HIS point of view; THAT is what Jesus came to save through redemption and restoration of it’s GOOD state.
So when it comes to our health. When it comes to our relationships. When it comes to our marks in school (which are based on our thinking, communication, and efforts). When it comes to our finances. When it comes to our business or role in the workplace. When it comes to church. When it comes to entertainment. When it comes to sexuality and sexual behaviour. When it comes to our thinking. When it comes to our eating. When it comes to our driving. When it comes to our hobbies. When it comes to ANYTHING and EVERYTHING about who we are, what we say, how we think, how we act, and how we choose to emote; the question is always: how or what does Jesus want to redeem here and now in relation to this? Jesus’ heart is for redeeming us. One act, one thought, one piece at a time right up until we behold Him and are blasted out of this flesh and into the perfection of His (John 1:16; 1 Corinthians 15:52; 2 Corinthians 3:18). Are you not experiencing the wholeness and the harmony with the Father that you should be? Find out what Jesus wants to redeem and listen to what He says with humble obedience. Hear it with your ears. Put it into your heart. And modify your behaviour by following how Ruach HaKodesh guides you. Repent and turn into His Will. Walking in His covenant by keeping aligned to Jesus. Seeking Him, to find His rest. Whole, healed, sealed, and delivered right here where we are.
Daily Affirmation Jesus IS Messiah: Malachi 2:12-13
“May the Lord cut off from the community of Jacob every last person who does this, as well as the person who presents improper offerings to the Lord of Heaven’s Armies! You also do this: You cover the altar of the Lord with tears as you weep and groan, because he no longer pays any attention to the offering nor accepts it favorably from you.” Messiah would regather Israel. Like lost sheep, He would gather them up and return them to their rightful place. “I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me— . . . But you refuse to believe because you are not my sheep. My sheep listen to my voice, and I know them, and they follow me” (John 10:14,26). Jesus came to be the voice that brought His children back to the Father. To be the bridge that enabled fellowship. The sacrifice that redeemed. The vessel holding the covenant that we can all participate in when we abide in Him (John 15:5). Jesus IS the Messiah!
