“Whoever has been born of God does not practice sin, for His seed remains in him. And he cannot keep on sinning, because he has been born of God” (1 John 3:9, MEV). Grace is such a wonderful thing. In spite of what we merit by our own behaviour and original nature (sinful as we are descended from Adam), we are judged according to Jesus’ merit as sinless man. We are saved by what Jesus did for us when we trust in Him, believe, and confess Him as Lord of our lives. When we believe the gospel message, we are sealed by Holy Spirit and He pours the indwelling love of God into our hearts. We have a new and sinless nature. If we rest in that, if we keep our focus on Jesus and His love for us, we can’t HELP ourselves. We find ourselves obeying Him. Following His example. Seeking to please the Father. It is such a comfort to know we cannot accidentally sin. I mean, it’s sad we chose to, but it is AWESOME we can’t do it by accident. That we have that protection. That He protects us and seals us so that we have an assurance we can’t manage on our own. Just to know that the possibility exists to so fully love Jesus that we never sin is a tremendous proof that He loves us. To know that His love for us creates our love for Him which creates a desire to please Him and totally, utterly, and completely reject sin is one of the true gifts of the gospel message. I am ever grateful that He loves us enough to enable us to be like Him in every way possible. He is SUCH a good God!
