Consequently faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the preached word of Christ.
Romans 10:17 (emphasis added)
Our today is determined by embracing what we have received in order to walk in the future it releases. In our past we received our future and it becomes our present. Yesterday, tomorrow, and today. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever!” (Hebrews 13:8). We have received promises of our future. Promises of victory. Promises of health. Promises of renewal. We must embrace them. We must humbly submit to them, taking captive every thought that doesn’t agree with the Word (2 Corinthians 10:5). We must picture that future that Adonai has given us – has GIVEN us. We already have it. After we have the promise, have the foundational Word it is based on and released through, after we have started picturing ourselves inside it; we must HEAR. If you have ears, you NEED to hear. Hearing has a vital role.
Yesterday we saw that our trust (faith) is formed out of the substance of what we SEE ourselves in (Hebrews 11:1). That positive imagining of the physical arrival of our promises is the raw material our trust is formed from. We don’t have one without the other. Every athlete will tell you that having the raw material isn’t enough. So will every couch potato. They have the same raw material. There are a few distinctive skeletal differences and a few distinctive internal biological differences (such as in the brain and how it functions), but on the whole males and females have the same raw material. On the whole, as a general broad stroke rule, all of humanity is on the same playing field. What is it that causes all the differences? What we DO with it! When we exercise those muscles (physical or mental) they start to develop. They begin to strengthen. And they continue to strengthen and develop. As they do, they unlock our potential. We understand more or get more creative and innovative. We lift more, run faster, accomplish more. We develop these huge reserves of potential that we tap into and release as needed and accomplish things in our lives. Our spirituality is NO DIFFERENT.
According to today’s verse, our trust (faith) is developed and strengthened by hearing the Word of Elohim. We have been given THE measure of trust (Romans 12:3). The trust that has been measured out is Adonai Elohim’s trust (Mark 11:22). It is the same trust Jesus had, John had, Peter had, James had, Thomas had, Matthias had, and Paul had (2 Peter 1:1). We all have the same trust. It’s Elohim’s, and He gave it to us to see what we would do with it (Matthew 25:14-30). It is NOT that He gives us all differing amounts of talent and trust. It is that WE see ourselves having differing amounts of talent and trust. What determines those differences is our hearing. I’m not talking about one person being gifted in singing and another in writing and another in construction and another in cleaning (Romans 12:6-21). I’m talking about the ABILITY that underlies those gifts. The RAW SUBSTANCE that forms our trust so that we can DO those gifts and RECEIVE His promises. HEARING is what creates the differences we see and have always seen. You MUST hear it. ‘When stimuli are learned by repetition, they are remembered better and retained for a longer time’ (https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC6050388/). This means that it is scientifically proven that doing the same thing regularly physically changes our brains (Romans 12:2). It forms that raw substance into something we can use to accomplish things in our lives. Not because of what WE have done, but because of the Word we heard from Him.
Imagination becomes certainty by hearing. We say it and say it and say it. We hear our mouths coming into agreement with the Word. Moving ourselves from doing our own thing to being in harmony with His thing. There is a need for us to hear ourselves speaking these promises. ‘I am healed’. ‘I am whole’. When we hear things that DON’T agree with the Word we were given, we need to hear ourselves speaking against those things. ‘I don’t have that issue’. ‘That’s not truth’. ‘I am free from that’. It doesn’t matter if it is the television, your pastor, your mother, or your child. When they say ANYTHING that doesn’t line up with your Word, speak against it. Reject it. Don’t be a jerk. Smile. Say you don’t agree with it. It isn’t about THEM getting the message. It’s about YOU hearing your agreement with the message. Your ears. Your neurons. Your heart. There is no sense in imagining yourself in the promise you were given if you are constantly either letting an opposing message go unchallenged or speaking words in conflict with the promise. That is the DEFINITION of being double-minded. “For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord, since he is a double-minded individual, unstable in all his ways” (James 1:7-8). This verse doesn’t say Adonai will stop talking to you. Or stop offering you things. Or stop trying to bless you. It clearly says that YOU will not RECEIVE anything. To receive is to detect and pick up. To provide space and accommodation for. To form (an idea or impression) as a result of perception or experience. To greet and welcome. To meet and to HAVE. To take delivery of something sent. It has NOTHING to do with Adonai’s side of things, but OUR side of things. When we are double-minded, we MISS OUT. We become UNABLE to receive what He sent. Healing was sent by Jesus’ stripes, bruises, and wounds (Isaiah 53:5; Matthew 8:16-17; 1 Peter 2:24). To RECEIVE it, we MUST see it.
How do you not feel foolish saying you are healthy and whole when there are physically real symptoms that contradict that? By SEEING the promise as more real than the physical reality. Every single thing you see is malleable BECAUSE it is physical. “because we are not looking at what can be seen but at what cannot be seen. For what can be seen is temporary, but what cannot be seen is eternal” (2 Corinthians 4:18). You know what doesn’t change? The Kingdom of Elohim and the person of Jesus in whom we experience the Kingdom and ALL of its promises and blessings. When we see it – truly SEE it – no one can convince us otherwise. No one can take what you know you have. Don’t you put up a fuss when someone tries to take your money? Your umbrella? Your parking spot? Of course you do. In your mind or because of legal transactions, they are YOURS. Our legal transaction is the acceptance of Jesus as Lord because of His sacrifice on the cross. Our legal right of inheritance becomes His Word (Isaiah 57:17). Fight for it! Tell yourself what He says you have. Tell yourself you do NOT have whatever else ANYONE says not in harmony with that.
Grab hold of the promise you were given by speaking it, reminding yourself, and declaring it. As you see that future, speak to it so that you learn to conform your thinking to agree with Adonai’s thinking. Make the past your future by speaking it in your present. Build your trust in His Word and form the substance of your trust into His image of you!
Daily Affirmation Jesus IS Messiah: Haggai 2:6-9
“On that day,’ says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, ‘I will take you, Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, my servant,’ says the Lord, ‘and I will make you like a signet ring, for I have chosen you,’ says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.”” Messiah would be a descendant of Zerubbabel. Jesus was born of Mary, a Jewish woman of the tribe of Judah. His step-father was Joseph, also of the tribe of Judah. “So Jesus, when he began his ministry, was about thirty years old. He was the son (as was supposed) of Joseph, the son of Heli, the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, the son of Melchi, the son of Jannai, the son of Joseph, the son of Mattathias, the son of Amos, the son of Nahum, the son of Esli, the son of Naggai, the son of Maath, the son of Mattathias, the son of Semein, the son of Josech, the son of Joda, the son of Joanan, the son of Rhesa, the son of Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, the son of Neri” (Luke 3:23-27). Jesus – physically through Mary and legally through Joseph – was a descendant of Zerubbabel. Jesus IS the Messiah!
