“For everyone who practices evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds be exposed.“
John 3:20
Brightness is not a property of light. It is not part of electromagnetic radiation (which is what light is). It is a sensation. The same way that feelings are a sensation that we are interpreting, not an emotion we are choosing to experience. Like colours are a way of interpreting which wavelength of light we are seeing. Brightness is our interpretation of light’s amplitude – which Merriam-Webster defines as ‘the extent or range of a quality, property, process, or phenomenon’. Seeing light via brightness, then, isn’t really seeing light. It’s seeing our interpretation of the quality of light. Brightness is something we work through in order to see the object behind it (the object from which the brightness is coming). Like looking into a light bulb long enough to see the filament or diode inside it. In a way, brightness is an obstacle preventing us from truly seeing the object. We have to work through it if we want to SEE it.
Jesus, the Light of the World (John 8:12), is the brightness we have to work through in order to see the Father. “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you know him and have seen him.” Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” Jesus said to him, “Am I with you so long a time and you have not known me, Philip? The one who has seen me has seen the Father! How can you say, ‘Show us the Father?’ Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak from myself, but the Father residing in me does his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; but if not, believe because of the works themselves” (John 14:6-11). Ruach HaKodesh is the part of the godhead living IN us, Jesus is the part of the godhead we can TOUCH, and the Father is the part of the godhead we go through Jesus to GET to. The Father is the SOURCE – the thing EMITTING the LIGHT. Jesus IS the LIGHT. Ruach HaKodesh is the LENS through which we PERCEIVE the LIGHT. We need to accept all three parts if we want to gain the most from our relationship with Adonai. The evidence of Adonai’s glory in creation leads us to seek Him which leads us to submit to Him which leads us to perceive Him which leads us to fellowship with Him. It’s all us aligning ourselves with Him. Letting the Word transform us and change us even as we let Jesus pick us up and take us from darkness to light (Colossians 1:13). That’s our journey in, through, and with Adonai – dealing with all three personages of Yahweh.
The world, however, has a different approach. They don’t LIKE the Light because it shows them things they don’t want to see. Once you’ve seen something, you have to deal with the knowledge that it’s there. If you learn that a large couch is now in the middle of the main room of your home, you can’t ignore it while passing through. You have to deal with it – even if you choose to stick close to the walls and therefore avoid it. The fact that light exposes items cloaked in darkness is the main reason that the world hates Jesus. They don’t want to deal with THEIR OWN GUILT. They don’t want to acknowledge that deep down they know right from wrong as Adonai sees it. Adonai’s ways are LIFE and HEALTH. ANYTHING and EVERYTHING else is SIN and DEATH (1 John 2:15-17). When that gets exposed, broken human thinking ASSUMES that the light is subjective, and therefore if they eliminate what they see as the source of that light it will cease to be. So they attack believers because Jesus’ light shines out of us. But it doesn’t stop. Because it is OBJECTIVE truth and OBJECTIVE light. It exists whether they perceive it, want it, agree with it, or reject it. It IS.
The world’s systems are all geared toward separating people from the light of Jesus and protecting them from being exposed. They try to keep us from saying Jesus’ name. From speaking the truth. From doing anything to upset the VERY fragile facts they are adhering to. Look at it this way. If we use the wrong pronouns or we say that a particular active behaviour is ‘wrong’, it REALLY upsets people. It triggers them. They can’t handle it. And that is even if we are speaking with love as we should be, not condemning them – which we should NOT be doing. Just pointing out biological scientific provable facts the scientists of the world agree on can send them into a spiral. On the other hand, people have been torturing, tormenting, and killing believers in Jesus and followers of Yahweh for thousands of years. The believers still believe. They’re still strong. They are not fazed and their not letting go. So which system is true? One that survives no matter what happens to it, or one that shakes and cracks the minute it gets looked at with intensity? I’m not mocking anyone OR judging them. But you can see WHY the world’s systems protect them. Things that were established in darkness have serious issues when exposed by the light.
This idea is also true of believers. Ruach HaKodesh is our CORRECTOR. He shines Jesus’ light into every corner of our lives. Exposing broken thinking. Exposing wrong thinking not in alignment with Adonai. Exposing all the places where we have forgotten who we are in Jesus, forgotten to or chosen not to choose to trust in Jesus, and everywhere we need to start or to continue to trust in Jesus. We cannot get away from the fact that Jesus is 100% righteous and we are called to be the same. Not through our own efforts, but through exposure to Jesus’ Light and renewing our mind through the Word. THAT is how we decide to cooperate with Jesus on ANY aspect of our lives. We need to see what the Word says, meditate on it, accept it, and then apply it. We need to cooperate with Jesus in EVERY aspect of our lives – no matter what we FEEL like or THINK at the beginning. Let the Word transform your thinking. Choose to expose your life to Jesus’ light. Let Him show you what exists and then let Him help you deal with what you perceive. It is the nature of Jesus to SHINE and the ministry of Ruach HaKodesh to let it shine in YOU.
Daily Affirmation of the Goodness of Elohim: Micah 6:8
“He has told you, O mortal, what is good, and what does Yahweh ask from you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” Adonai does not require us to MAKE the Way. Adonai asks us to walk with Him. To cooperate with Him. We are not judged according to what WE do, but according to Jesus’ doings. We have traded places. Jesus took our place on the cross so that we could sit with Him on His throne (2 Corinthians 5:21). If we are willing to hold His hand, He guides us. He leads us. He helps us. He corrects us. He is not trying to get us to be the best WE can be, but for us to be the best that JESUS is. Adonai is crafting us, through the ministrations and teaching of Ruach HaKodesh, into images of Jesus – what we were designed to be and always meant/called to be. Our reliance then is on Jesus. Our Source is the Father. And our guide is Ruach HaKodesh. If we are willing to seek His face, to keep our hands in His, there is nowhere in Him that we cannot go. He gives us everything we need to succeed at doing His will. What a GOOD God!
