“This is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us” (1 John 5:14, MEV). My youngest daughter has confidence that this year will be an amazing Christmas celebration. In her words, ‘I’ve ordered so much stuff.’ She does not consider that she won’t receive everything she put on her list for us to get her. She isn’t looking at it as a ‘wish list’ but an order form. She ordered it. It will arrive. She is confident she has asked what I want to do: gift her fun things she desires. Our Father in heaven works the same way. He is always listening for our godly requests. For us to ask for what He already wants to do: gift us godly things. I don’t mean things as possessions, necessarily. God created EVERYTHING. And He said it was GOOD. That is a LOT of things: emotional, physical, relational, environmental, financial, spiritual, etc etc. Every single arena of the human experience is able to be because God thought of it first. There is a godly version of everything. The devil can’t create anything at all. He perverts what God made. He twists it. So anything that is out there, at its core, has a godly version. A way to do it that is right and good and brings God glory. If we can get our desire for purely fun things out of the way, and start concentrating on GOOD things and GOD things, we’ll start find more and more prayers answered. If you look through the scripture, God provides a LOT of different things for people who seek Him. Practical things, personal things, relationships, offspring, games, entertainment, nice clothes, jewellery, food, the list goes on. God is a GOOD Father. A MERCIFUL Father. A GRACIOUS Father. If we ask for the good things, starting with a better and clearer relationship with Him, we’ll get answers. We’re not ordering them. We’re learning to receive what He wants to give us.
