“Therefore, the Lord longs to be gracious to you, and therefore, He waits on high to have mercy on you; for the Lord is a God of justice; how blessed are all who long for Him” (Isaiah 30:18, MEV). God is not up on some cloud looking down waiting to mightily smite us. It is not His character. There is nothing about His actions or His works that points to that attitude. Far from it. Instead, we see again and again a God of MERCY. Love motivates all things that God does. His pure and perfect love. He made a Way when there was not yet need of a way (Revelation 13:8). He has preached and taught us about the Gospel of His Kingdom throughout human history. It saturates the Word. He’s gotten us the message in so many different ways. Holy Spirit wrote it down for us using so many different voices (the scribes of the Word like Moses, David, Matthew, John, Paul, Peter, etc). We have so many examples of His mercy toward us. Of His grace. Of His love poured out for us. The Lord has been waiting with eager expectation since He first breathed into Adam for each and every one of us to see His glory, praise His name, and come running to the throne with open arms. From the beginning He has been eager for a relationship with us. For us to fulfill our purpose, see the meaning of our lives, and to claim our true identity in Him. This is a LOVING Father. This is a CARING Father. This is a MERCIFUL Father. And He is right there, right now, for you and for me. What a GREAT God!
