“Therefore, brothers, diligently make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never stumble. For in this way the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be abundantly provided for you” (2 Peter 1:10-11, MEV). It’s easy to get distracted. We like shiny things. And it is because we get distracted and choose to be lazy (falling back on old patterns and behaviours) that we have been given a benchmark to measure by. Holy Spirit is THE Spirit of Truth (John 16:13). By examining ourselves (2 Corinthians 13:5) and holding ourselves up against Truth, we can more easily see where we are going right and where we are choosing to expend less (or no) effort. In addition to this, Holy Spirit convicts us of whether we are or are not trusting in Jesus. He is always pointing out the opportunities we have to strengthen and develop our trust in Jesus. How to rely on Him. How to rest in Him. We were not designed for coasting. For making do. We were designed to move and to maintain our movement by relying on His strength and the vision He gave to us. This self-checking combined with His guidance and correction, puts us in a place where we can be sure that we are doing what we’ve been called to do and walking where we’ve been called to walk. And through all of it getting closer and closer to Him.
