“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead” (1 Peter 1:3, MEV). We have a common hope. All of us. Each and every person who has lived on the face of the Earth has this one, singular, common hope: Jesus. It doesn’t matter where we live, what culture we’re brought up in, what belief system we were trained into, what education we have, or our socio-political standpoint. We are ALL of us in the same boat at the beginning. Separate from God. In Jesus, we have THE Way to reconcile and reconnect to God through repentance and acceptance of Jesus’ payment for sin on our behalf (1 Peter 2:24). He is our hope. Our common ground. In HIM we are all made equal. We started out equal (fallen with a sinful nature) and we end up equal (saved with His nature). There is no excuse for looking down on anyone because of the particular iniquities they have participated in. Sin is sin is sin. A liar is the same as a homosexual who is the same as an adulterer who is the same as a murderer who is the same as a slanderer who is the same as a cheat who is the same as an inhospitable person. Everyone has sinned, and everyone has the same chance to be born again. To become a new creature through Jesus’ endurance of the ordeal of the cross. The love of God gave us the opportunity and the love of God should shine out of us toward ALL people in ALL places so that they ALL can also be in the same boat with us and Jesus. He loves ALL of us. ALL of us deserve to hear and have the opportunity to choose to receive His gift and new life in Him.
