“Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I have lifted up my hand to Yahweh, God Most High, possessor of heaven and earth, that I will not take a thread nor a sandal strap nor anything that is yours, lest you should say, ‘I have made Abram rich.’ “
(Genesis 14:22-23)
“By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed to go out to the place which he was to receive for an inheritance. He went out, not knowing where he went. By faith he lived as an alien in the land of promise, as in a land not his own, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise. For he was looking for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God. By faith even Sarah herself received power to conceive, and she bore a child when she was past age, since she counted him faithful who had promised. Therefore as many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as innumerable as the sand which is by the sea shore, were fathered by one man, and him as good as dead.“
(Hebrews 11:8-12)
Abraham and Sarah had to trust God. They didn’t know where they were headed when they started. They didn’t know where they were going to live when they got there. There were famines. There was trouble with locals. There was strife with family. There was a LOT going on. But there came a time when Abraham gave up the reins completely. He chose to disconnect from the systems of the world and to rely on the Lord alone. Sarah had to choose to trust in God no matter what circumstances she was in – in her own body and where she was physically. They had to submit and choose to believe what God had said to them. It was not easy. They had to see God as their source and no one and nothing else. But they DID choose. They DID trust. They DID believe Him. And when they did, everything began to happen just as God said it would. There were still bumps and they didn’t manage to do it perfectly, but God never asked us to be perfect. He asks us to believe. He asks us to trust. When He is our Source, we can do that. It’s not one and done. It’s an ongoing walk.
Summary
When God is our Source, supernatural provision can happen. He takes our natural and puts His super on it. He rescues us from traps. He enables us to give our tithes and offerings. He prospers us in ALL ways, not just stuff or character. It will not always look to the world the way that God says it is, but when we trust and believe in Him the end is always better than anything WE can imagine and hope for.
