“When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. For day and night Your hand was heavy on me; my strength was changed into the drought of summer. Selah I acknowledged my sin to You, and my iniquity I did not conceal. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” and You forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah” (Psalm 32:3-5, MEV). God doesn’t find out about our sins when we commit them. He knew about them before we were even born. Jesus was willing to pay the price for our sins before we committed them. When we confess them, we are not letting Him know we’ve done something wrong. When we confess to Him with the intention of repenting (changing our mind about it, aligning with His will about it, and turning away from them), we are letting Him get us clean. We are letting Him wash us. We are gaining FREEDOM. We are getting to accept His act of love. We are allowing ourselves to love Him like He loved us. It is wonderful not to carry the burden of what we’ve done wrong. It’s MORE wonderful to be able to adopt the same attitude He does about it. So that we don’t WANT to commit them again. So that we are offended by the temptation that are offered to us. So that we run to Him in those times. So that we double-down on the Word and stand against those things that interfere with our relationship with the Lord. What a great ability He has given us to choose. And what love He shows us when we make mistakes. What love there is in the gift of being able to confess to Him and get right. He is SO GOOD to us!
