Take the Plunge: Genesis 1:11

God said, “Let the earth yield grass, herbs yielding seeds, and fruit trees bearing fruit after their kind, with their seeds in it, on the earth;” and it was so.

Genesis 1:11

There is evidence within the meaning of the Hebrew words that the vegetation that came forth was young or immature vegetation. There was POTENTIAL for mature plants, but none were yet developed – specifically the words for grass and herbs. This accords well with Adam’s job – which was to MULTIPLY and FILL the earth (Genesis 1:28) as well as to tend the Garden (Genesis 2:8). Adam had the authority to bring out the full potential of the vegetation and bring it to full maturity and production.

Everything God called forth here were those plants which yielded seeds. Whether in a pod (grass and herbs) or trees (fruit). Nothing is mentioned of non-fruit bearing trees. Some scholars take this to mean that the account of creation in Genesis 1 only refers to the Garden and what was contained within it. Others take this to mean that there were no non-fruit bearing trees prior to the Fall and the curse – that before the Earth was cursed, all trees produced fruit,

All seeds contain with themselves the same kind as their parent. A reproduction of their particular strain or species. Seeds have within themselves everything they need to generate another them. All that is required is soil. Humans have planted seeds thousands of years old and seen them sprout. Seeds are powerful engines of reproduction – which is a lesson we should ALL cleave to (Proverbs 18:20-21).

Everything God thought of and spoke forth came to be EXACTLY as He intended it to.
