Nested in Him: Genesis 30; Matthew 9

(All scripture from the World English Bible, ebible.org, all rights reserved)

Jacob took to himself rods of fresh poplar, almond, and plane tree, peeled white streaks in them, and made the white appear which was in the rods. He set the rods which he had peeled opposite the flocks in the watering troughs where the flocks came to drink. They conceived when they came to drink. The flocks conceived before the rods, and the flocks produced streaked, speckled, and spotted.
(Genesis 30:37-39)

This is in and of itself, impossible. Stripes or non-stripes on sticks have no bearing on whether or not the offspring of animals will have spots or stripes. It wasn’t supernatural mumbo-jumbo. It wasn’t a ritual. It was a reminder. A reminder that God gives increase. A reminder that God will honour His promises. A reminder that God is his source. The sticks were for Jacob’s benefit, not the livestock. A reminder of where he should be placing his trust. A reminder of who to rely on. He was declaring his trust in God’s prophetic Word. Jacob’s trust was well placed. God was faithful to his promise. Jacob prospered.

Behold, a woman who had a discharge of blood for twelve years came behind him, and touched the fringe of his garment; for she said within herself, “If I just touch his garment, I will be made well.”
(Matthew 9:20-21)

The tassles (knotted fringes) on Jesus’ garment were the hem of His garment. They were there because Jesus was an observant Jew (Numbers 15:37-41; Deuteronomy 22:12). They were a visible reminder of God’s commandments. A call to obedience in every area of one’s life. The Hebrew word for border or corner in this instance can also be translated as ‘wings’. In reaching out for Jesus’ tassels, the woman was reminding herself of who Jesus was to her. Saviour. Messiah. The One with healing in His wings (Malachi 4:2). She was expressing her trust in Jesus as her source of wellness. She was declaring her trust in His prophetic Word. Her trust was well placed. God was faithful to his promise. She was healed.

Summary

God’s moral character is steadfast and faithful. God’s prophetic promises are steadfast and faithful. God’s promises of BLESSING are steadfast and faithful. If we will put our trust in Him and believe what He has said, we will experience the reality of His promises in our lives. There may be time between our declaration and their physical manifestation in our lives, but the promises are true, the BLESSING is real, and it is on the way. It may not happen when, where, or how we think it will; but they WILL happen. Take advantage of the Word. Remind yourself of His faithfulness and truthfulness. Express your trust in Him and see that your trust is well placed. He is FAITHFUL. He is TRUE. He is WORTH trusting.
