Nested in Him: Genesis 31; Matthew 10

(All scripture from the World English Bible, ebible.org, all rights reserved)

It is in the power of my hand to hurt you, but the God of your father spoke to me last night, saying, ‘Be careful that you don’t speak to Jacob either good or bad.’
(Genesis 31:29)

Therefore don’t be afraid of them, for there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known.
(Matthew 10:26)

Jacob was trying to break away from Laban. He was tired of being cheated. God told him it was time to go back home. Which he prepared to do. He waited until his uncle was elsewhere. He left rapidly and went far. He didn’t know what Laban would do. He certainly didn’t know one of his wives had stolen from Laban (items that were often objects of worship/superstition, but ALSO the evidence for inheritance rights – meaning Jacob could come after Laban was dead and take the lion’s share of assets.). But God DID. Not only did God know everything that had happened, He intervened and made sure that there was a fence around Jacob. Laban was unwilling to go against God. The SITUATION wasn’t perfect, but God’s had Jacob covered in ways Jacob had no idea about. God was fulfilling His promise to get Jacob back home safely (Genesis 28:15).

Jesus told the disciples this same thing. The SITUATIONS they were about to walk in might not be the best from THEIR point of view, but it didn’t mean God was ignorant of what was happening. God was sending them and He would be faithful to watch over them on their work. There would be blessings on them, there would be guidance given, and they would be well equipped to do what they were called to. Their task was not to look at their situations, but to Him. Not to evaluate their impending actions, thoughts, or words according to what HUMANITY could do, but on what GOD said they should do. To follow their CALLING, not their FEELINGS, and let God prove He was their safety, mouthpiece, and guide.

Summary

God’s sight isn’t limited. Hidden plans, out in the open plans, it doesn’t matter. Everything was under His eyes and He has a plan for everything. There is nothing can take Him by surprise. We can trust in Him totally and fully. He will prove faithful in ALL things, if He is our Source.
