“Examine yourselves, seeing whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not know that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified” (2 Corinthians 13:5, MEV). God loves us enough to not let us fly off the handle. He gives us the space and the time to prove to ourselves that we truly want to do what we are claiming we want to do. When we get a heart for something, we have the time to meditate on it. Get the Word on it. Talk to Holy Spirit about it. To stir ourselves up and make sure we have the right motivation. That it isn’t just a ‘feeling’ that got twigged. God wants cheerful givers (2 Corinthians 9:7) – whether that is giving of our finances or time or resources or whatever. He doesn’t want you pressured. He wants you to do it because YOU want to do it. He encourages us. He guides us. And He gives us the space we need to figure it out with all the tools that He has given us. People who just want your resources take them by preying on your feelings. People who want to bless you give you the opportunity to give of your resources AND the space to choose not to – without judgment or shame. This is how God is. He loves when we want to give of what we are and what we have. He loves when it is freely given. Not coerced and not to get something back. Just giving because we cannot HELP blessing others when we see how blessed we are in return. That is love. For forcing. Not demanding. Letting us choose.
