“The Lord is not slow concerning His promise, as some count slowness. But He is patient with us, because He does not want any to perish, but all to come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9. MEV). I am really holding onto this verse today. We are losing so many people. Every time we lose someone famous, I wonder if they knew the Lord. I wonder if in those last days, hours, or moments, they chose Him. And then I think of all the other people who are lost every day. The grandmothers, friends, fathers, mothers, sisters, brothers. Do they know Him? Did they get to meet Jesus? Did they get the opportunity to say ‘yes’ and KNOW that it was their last opportunity? When these thoughts start swimming around in my head, this verse brings me comfort. Because no matter how much I may want someone saved, no matter how much I may have loved a given individual – or how much they were loved by others – the truth is that God loved them more. God didn’t WANT them saved, He was DESPERATE for them to be saved. For them to choose Him. No matter what I or anyone else does, God was working with supreme effort to get that person – and all the other people – to a knowledge of His loving kindness and saving grace. I am grateful He gives us a heart for people. A heart to pray for them, share with them, and reach out to them. But God is working CONSTANTLY to bring a knowledge of Jesus to each and every one of us. God LOVES us SO MUCH and does NOT want to be without us. Not now and not EVER. He is a loving, caring, compassionate, and saving God.
