Nested in Him: Exodus 2-3; Matthew 24

(All scripture from the World English Bible, ebible.org, all rights reserved)

I know that the king of Egypt won’t give you permission to go, no, not by a mighty hand. I will reach out my hand and strike Egypt with all my wonders which I will do among them, and after that he will let you go. I will give this people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, and it will happen that when you go, you shall not go empty-handed.
(Exodus 3:19-21)

Let him who is on the housetop not go down to take out the things that are in his house. Let him who is in the field not return back to get his clothes. But woe to those who are with child and to nursing mothers in those days! Pray that your flight will not be in the winter nor on a Sabbath, for then there will be great suffering, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, nor ever will be. Unless those days had been shortened, no flesh would have been saved. But for the sake of the chosen ones, those days will be shortened.
(Matthew 24:17-22)

God IS. He Is Who He Is. He Is Who He Will Be. I AM. Alpha-Omega. The same throughout all of what we experience as time. Hard to really ‘get’, right? God helps us by giving details. Letting us know He sees, He plans, He will be there when it happens. Moses is told EXACTLY what will happen in the future. The fulfillment of prophecy coming to pass in a specific way. And when we reach that point we’ll see it play out exactly as God said it would. What a great comfort as they strode into the desert, knowing that God sees, God had a plan, and God will not leave them.

Jesus hadn’t changed by the time He came to minister to us. He NEVER changes. When the disciples start questioning when and how, Jesus doesn’t give them the timeline. That didn’t matter. But He didn’t leave them with nothing. He told them SPECIFIC things that would happen. And built into those things is God’s MERCY and GRACE. Even when terrible things would arrive, God sees, God had a plan, God would be with them, and God would be merciful. They could take comfort that they were not alone and God had things WELL in hand. This would be a key idea as they raced toward the worst weekend they’d ever experienced.

Summary

Companionship. Stewardship. Salvation. God leads us. God is with us. God has a plan that WILL come to pass. God will save. Try though he might, the enemy doesn’t stand a chance. He has no power. He has no victory. He is already defeated. But like a screaming toddler, he’s causing chaos and wanting to break everything around him. As he rages and yells, things will get crazy. But God sees us. God sees the situation. He HAS seen it since before He created anything. God made a plan. He is following the plan. The plan will come to pass. And He will be there with us throughout ALL of it. Guiding us toward His salvation. Guiding us through the trouble. Showering us with His MERCY.
