“I slept, but my heart was awake. A sound! My beloved is knocking. “Open to me, my sister, and my love, my dove, my perfect one; for my head is wet with dew, my locks with the drops of the night” (Song of Songs 5:2, MEV). Sometimes God can’t wait to talk to us. Yes, we can be woken up to pray. A crisis for someone else somewhere in the world. But we can also be woken up just because God wants to talk to us and HE COULDN’T WAIT. Don’t be surprised by that. God LOVES us. Haven’t you had times in your life where you couldn’t wait to talk to someone? A friend? A spouse? A dating partner? You got so excited by the idea of seeing them or hearing them that you had to call? Or go to their home? It may not have always been wise. Maybe it didn’t make you any friends with their roomates/parents. But you HAD to do it. There are times that God feels the same way. That He wants to share time with us so much that He wakes us up. He wakes us and wants to talk with us. Not earth-shattering conversation. Not ‘build me an ark’ stuff. Just ‘hi’. And how are things? Or maybe even what were you dreaming about? Conversation. Fellowship. A place to start and grow from. God LOVES us. He WANTS to talk to us. About important things, about un-important things. About EVERYTHING. He loves us and He LOVES to spend time with us. Even if it’s the middle of the night.
