Fear No Fear

“The magicians tried with their enchantments to produce lice, but they couldn’t. There were lice on man, and on animal. Then the magicians said to Pharaoh, “This is God’s finger;” but Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he didn’t listen to them, as Yahweh had spoken.“

“Oh let the nations be glad and sing for joy,
    for you will judge the peoples with equity,
    and govern the nations on earth.“
(Psalm 67:4)

“Behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from the sky and came and rolled away the stone from the door and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. For fear of him, the guards shook, and became like dead men”
(Matthew 28:2-4)

‘This is the finger of God’ is an ancient Hebrew saying that referred to God’s tremendous power. Jesus used it Himself in Luke 11:20. When God shows His power in a PHYSICAL way, there are no other explanations. There is a vibrancy to it whether it is quiet like a plague of flies or loud like an earthquake. God uses the phenomena of this world and shows again and again that He is the master. That He is in control. That His power and majesty are working and bringing about His will for His glory.

We cannot stand against the Lord. We can deny His power. We can run from His power. We can cower in the face of His power. But we cannot stand against it. Instead of fear, this produces in the believer (or should) AWE. Praise is the proper response to God’s power. Because LOOK WHAT OUR GOD CAN DO! Our problems and our issues can seem so big, but look what God can do! Look how He can move. Look how the enemies fall around us. Look how barriers are shifted. Look how nations are brought to their needs – with frogs and bugs. God can use ANYTHING to His advantage. God shows His power in quiet ways and shattering ways. There is evidence of it all over the world every single day – if you’ll look for it. God lifts His finger and nations change. How GREAT is our God!

Summary

We can take great comfort that we serve THE Almighty God. He IS the power that suns everything. He CANNOT be thwarted in His design. What He wishes to be WILL be. If we will look at Him as the power that He is, we should come to the very same conclusion as David and Paul. If God is for us, WHO CAN STAND AGAINST US? The more we read about what God CAN do, the more we should be comforted and find ourselves at peace even in tumultuous circumstances. God can do ANYTHING He wants. The time is coming when the finger of God will once more be VISIBLE on this Earth. When that happens, we’ll be among those who REJOICE because we know on whose side we are!
