“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not of yourselves. It is the gift of God, not of works, so that no one should boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9, MEV). How sweet is the sound of that verse. We were saved, from outside ourselves, as a gift, because we trusted God was telling the truth. We didn’t have to perfect our behaviour. We didn’t have to perfect our thinking. We didn’t have to donate a certain amount of money, or time, or resources. We didn’t have to attend church a specific number of times. We didn’t have to do anything physical at all. All we needed to do was to trust that God was telling the truth. We had to choose to believe. That is a pretty sweet deal. And even sweeter is that we then got SAVED. Saved from all the nonsense. Saved from all the sinning. Saved from the broken thinking. Saved from being alone. Now we have God with us. Living in us. We’re loved and can love Him back. Fully. We can choose not to sin by choosing to trust in Jesus in everything we do (long journey, but a worthy one). We can rely on Him for everything we need and all the good things we want. We can depend on Him. We can learn from Him. We can be corrected by Him. We’re FREE!!! It’s so WONDERFUL! How great it is to be loved so much! How great it is to have abundant life! Doesn’t always look like it from the outside, but the smile in our hearts and the Joy on our lips is the living proof that our God is MORE THAN ENOUGH – and that He loves us muchly.
