“and the gold of that land is good. Bdellium and onyx stone are also there.“
Genesis 2:12
The gold was good. Most scholars agree that it means it was a pure gold. It wasn’t mixed with something and needing to be processed to get at it.
Manna is said to look like Bdellium (Numbers 11:7), though whether that means shape and size or colour is unknown. It’s hard to say exactly what these words ORIGINALLY referred to.
Since gold is often deposited along river ways, it is no surprise that the gold out of the river that originated in the garden was good. Also, it is God here that placed value on gold and not man. Regardless of what we have done with it since then, God was pointing out the value in this particular metal.
