“Aaron lifted up his hands toward the people, and blessed them; and he came down from offering the sin offering, and the burnt offering, and the peace offerings. Moses and Aaron went into the Tent of Meeting, and came out, and blessed the people; and Yahweh’s glory appeared to all the people. Fire came out from before Yahweh, and consumed the burnt offering and the fat upon the altar. When all the people saw it, they shouted, and fell on their faces.”
(Leviticus 10:22-24)
“For though we walk in the flesh, we don’t wage war according to the flesh; 4 for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds, throwing down imaginations and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being in readiness to avenge all disobedience when your obedience is made full.“
(2 Corinthians 10:3-6)
Everything was done the way the Lord had proscribed it. Moses did it first, demonstrating the proper procedure as he anointed Aaron and his sons, setting them apart as priests. Then Aaron acted in his role as priest, making the offerings for the people, following the procedure and doing everything as the Lord had told them to do it. They were obedient. They submitted to what God said was the proper way of doing things. They offered up valuable things to God and worshipped Him as God. They put Him first place. When they did, His glory appeared to them and they rejoiced in Him.
It’s easy to forget that nothing has changed. It’s easy to forget that instead of PHYSICAL sacrifices and offerings, that we are meant to offer up ourselves. Yes, we tithe and offer up the fruit of what we make or our time or our effort. Yes, we bless others with our possessions or with gifts. But we ourselves are meant to remember that there is a spiritual component that cannot be avoided. We are to submit to what God says. We are to put Him first. We are to be humble before Him and worship Him for who He is. Our enemies aren’t PHYSICAL, but spiritual, mental, and emotional. All that we have on the inside needs to be as submitted and worshipful toward God as anything we have on the outside.
Summary
Salvation is a whole-person, whole-package thing. Spirit, soul, and body. All that we are and all that we have. We tend to forget that. We look at people coming against us or situations. But our THINKING needs to be removed. The strongholds we’ve built up need to come down. We need to crucify the training we’ve spent our whole life building up and relying on. We need to replace broken thinking with His Word. We need to replace all that we have thought is proper to reach for with what God says is proper to reach for. We need to institute a system within ourselves where God is our Source, God is our guide, God is our corrector, and God is who we worship – the One we give our efforts, our thoughts, and our inner passion to. When we do, we will see His glory in our lives, in our thinking, and His praise coming from our lips with rejoicing.
