“For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who was in every sense tempted like we are, yet without sin” (Hebrews 4:15, MEV). The best kind of wingman is the one who has been there before. The one who knows what you’re feeling, what you’re going through, and also what it takes to achieve what you’re seeking. That’s who you want with you when you’re asking that special someone out. When you’re trying to land that job. When you have that test to take. And especially when you want to have fun. They’re going to contribute to the goings on. They’re going to have ideas that will be useful. They’ve faced the uncertainty before and they are here to face it again with you. Hand in hand. This is what Jesus is to us. That is the kind of friend He is. He knows what works. He knows what doesn’t. He knows what He needed to succeed and He can point you to the same thing. And the parts that you can’t do? That are beyond you? He does those. He doesn’t make us do the same things over and over. What HE finished, we don’t have to repeat. We get to use what He built. In HIM we achieve what He achieved. We get to live the reality of His successes, and He is there to pick us up from our failures. It is a loving team. A great partnership. With HIM who loves us, nothing is impossible. He did it before. He did it for us.
