“For to this you were called, because Christ suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps: “He committed no sin, nor was deceit found in His mouth” (1 Peter 2:21-22, MEV). Jesus is our example to follow when suffering comes our way because we refuse to lie and because we are being godly. That’s the suffering that we are due as believers. That’s the persecution: persecution for the sake of the Lord Jesus. It isn’t being sick. It isn’t being poor. It isn’t being put down. It isn’t failing to succeed. It isn’t being a punching bag for friends, coworkers, or strangers. It is when we are being godly, when we are doing right, and following Jesus example. When HE is the reason we are persecuted, it is expected persecution. And we can’t be saved from it. But we don’t NEED to be. Why? Because Jesus loves us. He didn’t give us a blueprint to follow. He literally laid down the steps and empowered us to walk in them. To overcome because HE overcame and we are in HIM. He’s given us His Fruit to grow in our hearts. He’s given us His Spirit so that we have the power of the Father flowing through us in the same way He did. He’s given us everything to follow Him in His FINISHED work. It is because HE suffered in victory that we too can suffer in victory. Never losing until we’re face to face at the Throne.
