Fear No Fear

“Moses said to them: “If you will do this thing, if you will arm yourselves to go before Yahweh to the war, and every one of your armed men will pass over the Jordan before Yahweh until he has driven out his enemies from before him, and the land is subdued before Yahweh; then afterward you shall return, and be clear of obligation to Yahweh and to Israel. Then this land shall be your possession before Yahweh.”

“Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? The words that I tell you, I speak not from myself; but the Father who lives in me does his works. Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me; or else believe me for the very works’ sake. Most certainly I tell you, he who believes in me, the works that I do, he will do also; and he will do greater works than these, because I am going to my Father. Whatever you will ask in my name, I will do it, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you will ask anything in my name, I will do it. If you love me, keep my commandments. I will pray to the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, that he may be with you forever: the Spirit of truth, whom the world can’t receive, for it doesn’t see him and doesn’t know him. You know him, for he lives with you and will be in you“

There was a country to take. A land which had been promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. A land they had seen, but been too afraid to enter forty years previously. Now they had a second chance. Moses was being VERY clear to them. If they would go before the Lord in everything they did. If they would prepare and stand before Him, going where He told them to go. Doing what He told them to do in the way He told them to do it. If they would do this and remain with God, they would succeed. They would conquer. Because they needed the grace of God to succeed and with the grace of God they could not fail.

Jesus was about to go to Heaven, ending His physical ministry on the Earth. But in going, not only would God’s hand remain on them, Holy Spirit would come to indwell them and be with them forever. The Grace of God would be with them in a way that it had never been with humanity before – and it would NEVER cease to be with them. If they listened to Him and did what He said, when He said to do it, in the way that He said to do it, they would succeed in their calling. They would accomplish what they were meant to accomplish. They would do as Jesus had done and sow success in themselves and all those around themselves. They could do it by and through the Grace of God.

Summary

Nothing has changed. In ourselves, we have middling success in life and ALL of it transitory. If we want real success and we want it to last, then we need the Grace of God operating in our lives. It operates by our submitting to Him. By our willingness to lay down our pride, our plans, and our confidence in our own strength. By our willingness to humbly submit to Him and what He says to do, the way He says to do it, when He says to do it. If we do that, we will be in the perfect will of God. Saying what He gives us to say. Doing what He shows us to do. Exactly like Jesus. And if we seek ONLY to glorify God, we will be able to do exactly what Jesus did because every sign, every wonder, ever miracle, and every lesson spoken was done and said to bring God glory – and never for personal acknowledgement. Jesus ALWAYS pointed to the Father and ALWAYS gave Him glory. We need to do the same.
