“Since then we have a great High Priest who has passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who was in every sense tempted like we are, yet without sin. Let us then come with confidence to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:14-16, MEV). It’s difficult to imagine Jesus suffering with erectile dysfunction. But He DID suffer with wanting something SO BADLY and being powerless to make it happen (Luke 19:41-44) – because of the free choice of the people whose will He would NOT dictate. Jesus didn’t suffer period cramps. But He DID suffer agonizing pain that made Him unable to function properly (Matthew 27:32). Jesus knew physical exhaustion (John 4:6). Jesus knew rejection (Matthew 13:55-57). Jesus knew all the same types of struggles we did. Hunger. Thirst. Compassion. Love. Longing. Human frailty. Bad relationships. Unable to do what He could before in the ways He could before (Philippians 2:7). Jesus knows ALL of our struggles. And in ALL of our struggles we can go to the Throne to get help. We can do that because Jesus loved us enough to become the Way we get to the Father (John 14:6) from whom ALL POWER flows (Matthew 28:18). Jesus loved us enough to make us a Way to get the help we need in ANY situation. No matter how small. No matter how big. Jesus’ love IS the Way we need to embrace who we are in Him and overcome like He overcame – with help from the Father, Source of ALL things good.
