Nested in Him: Deuteronomy 2; John 19; Psalm 22

(All scripture from the World English Bible, ebible.org, all rights reserved)

Yahweh said to me, “Behold, I have begun to deliver up Sihon and his land before you. Begin to possess, that you may inherit his land.” ”
(Deuteronomy 2:31)

After this, Jesus, seeing that all things were now finished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, “I am thirsty!” Now a vessel full of vinegar was set there; so they put a sponge full of the vinegar on hyssop, and held it at his mouth. When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, “It is finished!” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
(John 19:28-30)

The humble shall eat and be satisfied.
They shall praise Yahweh who seek after him.
    Let your hearts live forever.
All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to Yahweh.
All the relatives of the nations shall worship before you.
For the kingdom is Yahweh’s.
He is the ruler over the nations.

(Psalm 22:26-28

For forty YEARS the Israelites had wandered the Arabian Desert. But then the time of wandering ended and the time for entrance into the Land of Promise had come. They were told to move. That God was going before them. That God was already afflicting their enemies and readying the Land for their arrival. It didn’t look like it, but they ALREADY had guaranteed victory – if they would listen, humble themselves, and be obedient to what He said.

Jesus suffered and died for us. But He didn’t die until He accomplished everything He set out to do. He went before us and made the Way open to get back into a full relationship with the Father. Jesus made the victory. Jesus made the way toward full restoration. If we will recognize that, humble ourselves, listen to Him, and be obedient to what He says to us; we too will be able to walk where He walks, talk as He talks, and think as He thinks. We can be overcomers of this world because in Jesus is the victory. He ALREADY overcame the world! In Jesus, we have EVERYTHING we need.

Summary

What WE see doesn’t matter. It is what GOD sees that matters. His perspective is quite different from ours. He sees the end and calls it done. He sees the victory when all we see is battle. He laughs at the ‘strength’ the enemy claims, because He can see it is really just hot wind and posturing. When we rely on the Lord for our perspective, nothing that happens can shake us. We aren’t oblivious, we just don’t choose to give weight to the feelings that come on us. Instead, we build our emotions on the trust in, the belief in, and the proven faithfulness of our God. When we do that, nothing can make us lose heart. Nothing can make us fearful. Nothing can make us anxious. God IS our safe place and God is on the move!
