Daily Affirmation #1

Don’t look ahead to what’s behind you.
Let the Word renew your mind to
what you already have access to.
1 Peter 2:24 / Romans 12:2 / Hebrews 4:16

It’s easy to get our sightlines messed up. There are so many ways to do it. Rear-facing cameras, mirrors, walking backwards, and reflections in surfaces we pass. In a modern city it’s hard NOT to get views of what’s behind you. Humanly speaking though, we have a habit of taking previous experience and expecting it in front of us. It doesn’t seem like a negative because it can prepare you for what’s coming. It can enable you to have a backup plan. Often, it is more than a plan. It is a solid expectation that clouds and colours your life. You expect to fail, so you do. You expect to miss out, so you do. You expect to have good things taken from you, so you do. You expect relationships to break up, so they do. It’s the phenomena of self-fulfilling prophecy, but as believers we know it’s really a self-seeded harvest. Every word is a seed. When we speak of what has passed, we’re often re-seeding it. Because it isn’t being spoken of as something old, done, and gone. But patterns and situations that happened and could happen again at any time. We need to wrap the Word around these past situations. Get His light on what was going on and what He wants to go on. To see what Adonai has to say about those situations. To see what He has already equipped us to handle many things. He’s given us clear guidelines on what He would like to do. He’s even clearly asked for humble submission in loving obedience so we will cooperate with Him. To see His will come to pass here on Earth as it does in Heaven. Don’t look back, look forward. Don’t check the reflections in your mirror, check them in the Word. It isn’t putting on blinders, it’s putting on the correct translation. It’s shining His light and seeing what’s REALLY there. Forward thinking, forward speaking. It’s the FREE way to walk.
