But Jesus said, “Enough of this!” And he touched the man’s ear and healed him.
Luke 22:51 (emphasis added)
Yahweh has always had a point at which enough was enough. A point at which the cup got full and overflowed. Under the Old Covenants, it was the cup of wrath toward sin. “In the fourth generation your descendants will return here, for the sin of the Amorites has not yet reached its limit” (Genesis 15:16). In the New Covenant, Yahweh’s wrath toward sin is satisfied. Complete. It is no longer filling up and CAN no longer be filled up. The war of Yahweh toward sin is OVER (Luke 2:14). Now it is the cup of impatience with unmercifulness. It is the time here on earth that Adonai puts up with before He can move. He set things up so that WE must be involved, but there is a limit to His patience with OUR lack of mercy.
We’re called to be merciful (Luke 6:36). It isn’t only because there is a benefit to us in being merciful (Matthew 5:7). The fact is that Yahweh shows mercy to all (Psalm 145:9). It is His NATURE to be merciful. That is how WE got mercy in us. In the same way that we are able to love because He loved us (1 John 4:19), we are able to be merciful because He is merciful (Psalm 103:8). “The Lord passed by before him and proclaimed: “The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, and abounding in loyal love and faithfulness, keeping loyal love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin. But he by no means leaves the guilty unpunished, responding to the transgression of fathers by dealing with children and children’s children, to the third and fourth generation”” (Exodus 34:6-7).
Mercy is a large part of who Yahweh is. Consequently, mercy should be a large part of who WE are. It is not a fruit of the Spirit because it is not a tool. It isn’t an aspect of character we should strive to project. It is a core part of who Adonai is and should therefore be a core part of who WE are. When we were touched by Jesus, we took on the properties of who Jesus is. When the sin offering was given in the Temple, anything that touched it took on its properties (Leviticus 6:14-18, especially 18). When we accepted His offered salvation through Jesus BECOMING our sin offering (1 Peter 2:24), we took on Jesus’ properties and became through Him, righteous (2 Corinthians 5:21). Since mercy is a core attribute of Adonai, it is now (in and through Jesus) a core attribute of ourselves.
If Yahweh gets tired of waiting and moves through ANYONE WILLING TO LET HIM so that He can show us mercy, why aren’t we seeking to emulate Him? Why aren’t we being like our Father? Why aren’t we modelling ourselves after Him? Why is it we keep gatekeeping His Blessing? In the end, we are fighting the nature of Yahweh Himself. That is not an easy thing, or a wise thing to do (Acts 26:14, 5:39). We are supposed to be like Jesus (Philippians 2:5). Jesus is like His Father – He is in fact the Father manifested in flesh (John 14:9-11). As such, we need to not just model ourselves after Him (Fruit of the Spirit – Galatians 5:22-23) but to truly seek to appropriate what is in our spirit – which is Jesus’ own. Why settle for being who we are not? We’re co-heirs with Jesus and the Father’s beloved children. Shouldn’t we be using the spiritual DNA we’ve been given? Shouldn’t we be seeking so diligently that we will be UNABLE not to be like Him? Isn’t that the whole POINT of being a New Creation (2 Corinthians 5:16–17).
We should HATE sickness. We should hate it so much that we want to stamp it out in every form no matter WHERE we find it. While I do not recommend charging through hospitals and forcibly praying for people, I do think we should be always ready to bring our trust to bear against sickness at a moment’s notice every minute of every day of the year. We can do that by keeping the Word before our eyes like we were commanded to (Proverbs 4:20-22; Deuteronomy 11:18-19). We should be so saturated with the Word in our thinking and our daily life that we are constantly re-tuning our thinking to His and asking Holy Spirit what the Word says about any given thing. That doesn’t mean we read 24/7. It means we think about it, consider it, and ask Him what He thinks about it every chance we get – making chances as often as we can.
Healing should be seized whenever Adonai wants to see it manifest. Since we know Adonai wants us all to have all of the Blessing He has for us (Deuteronomy 30:19; John 10:10), and since we know that Jesus ALREADY paid for and released our healing (Matthew 8:16-17; 1 Peter 2:24), we KNOW that He will look for every chance there is for us to apply His healing. What we need to do is to stop believing for the faith to be healed and start trusting that we already have it. It comes down to this: either we trust the Word or we do not. If we do, there is no struggle. There is no striving for it. There is no beating on the gates of heaven, begging for Adonai to release healing. There is no crying about how you don’t know why Adonai allowed this. There is no misery about not getting an answer. There is no doubt that maybe He will or maybe He won’t. It is ALREADY done! Our trust in Him lets us appropriate what He already did! We are not trying to make Yahweh respond to our faith. Faith is our response to what Adonai already did. That is what faith is. TRUST.
Do we trust Him enough to listen to the Word? Do we trust Him enough to get sick of sickness and heal people? To USE our trust the way the Word SAYS we can. To USE the authority that we are ANOINTED with. We’ve been given power of attorney here on Earth, bringing to pass the fullness of the Father’s will as it exists in heaven. Doing what He has always wanted: bring fruitful in our work for the Kingdom and to multiply it so that it fills the WHOLE of the Earth (Genesis 1:28). Be like Jesus. Get sick of sickness and heal those around you who are sick! They might not have the faith to be healed, but they probably have the faith to accept healing when it is offered. Adonai responds to faith, no matter whose, no matter when, and you only need a tidbit of it (Matthew 17:20). Heal the sick. Yahweh says we SHOULD. Yahweh says we CAN. And Yahweh says it is the MERCY we should be showing because by our nature we ARE merciful. Remember, Yahweh is not the Great Going to Be. He’s the Great I Am.
Daily Affirmation Jesus IS Messiah: Psalm 24:3
“Who is allowed to ascend the mountain of the Lord? Who may go up to his holy dwelling place?” Messiah would be one who was allowed to ascend the mountain of the Lord. Not everyone is allowed (Exodus 19:12). Only someone anointed by Yahweh could ascend. Only someone called out. Messiah would be the anointed one. Messiah would be someone exalted. “As they were still staring into the sky while he was going, suddenly two men in white clothing stood near them 11 and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand here looking up into the sky? This same Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven will come back in the same way you saw him go into heaven”” (Acts 1:10-11). “As a result God highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name,” (Philippians 2:9). Jesus was Anointed by Yahweh (Acts 10:38). Jesus ascended to Heaven. Jesus was exalted. Jesus IS the Messiah!
