“So Hebron remains the assigned land of Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this very day because he remained loyal to the Lord God of Israel.”
Joshua 14:14 (emphasis added)
Adonai isn’t slow as some see slowness (2 Peter 3:9). Caleb was 40 years old when he was sent to spy out the Promised Land (Joshua 14:7). He was 80 when he entered the Promised Land, fought for 5 years, and was 85 years old when he asked for his promised territory – which was a mountain where he then went and chased out the inhabitants. Got a promise. Forty-five years before it was fulfilled. Caleb remained one hundred percent committed to that promise and the One who made it during that time. If WE will WHOLLY inhabit the promise, we will WHOLLY receive the reward.
The promise is being able to enter the Covenant of Jesus. When you look at the Covenants Adonai made with humanity (both males and females), He didn’t make ‘new’ covenants in the sense of replacement. Instead, each new covenant was a step UP from the last one. The Adamic Covenant (which WE broke), the Noahic Covenant, the Abrahamic Covenant, The Mosaic Covenant, and the Davidic Covenant.
To Adam, Adonai affirmed Adam was made in His image, placed here to have dominion, to work, and to populate the earth with the Garden and the people to work it (Genesis 1:26-28; 2:7-8). We broke that Covenant through rebellion, died spiritually, lost our dominion by obeying the devil, and the curse came upon Creation.
To Noah, Adonai promised the preservation of humanity and provided for the restraint of human evil and violence -mostly by destroying the demonic cancer and enabling humankind to start again (Genesis 9:1-17). Adonai reaffirmed His covenant with Adam. We are in His image and should obey accordingly.
To Abraham, Adonai promised land, descendants and blessing to both Abraham and his descendants throughout all of time and throughout all the earth (Genesis 12 & 15). Abraham received the Blessing with the responsibility to be a blessing in turn to everyone he met.
To Moses and the Jewish people, Adonai promised the Law – the conditional and defined blessings and curses based on obedience or disobedience (Exodus 19 & 24; Deuteronomy 28; by extension Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy). It was not a means of salvation, but of temporary covering as it taught dependence on Adonai for salvation through governing and shaping them into the role they would have when Messiah came (kings and priests leading the Gentiles to knowledge of Adonai).
To David, Adonai didn’t build but extended the Law to provide the summation of it. Adonai promised a descendant of David would reign on the throne over the people of God. A Saviour to secure the promises of land, descendants, dominion, blessing (including multiplying in every way), His work, and Righteousness from all the previous covenants. Essentially a SINGLE covenant that would encompass ALL previous ones in its own perfection. A fulfilment of the others enabling us to achieve them through this New Covenant. ““I, the Lord, officially commission you; I take hold of your hand. I protect you and make you a covenant mediator for people, and a light to the nations, to open blind eyes, to release prisoners from dungeons, those who live in darkness from prisons” (Isaiah 41:6-7). Jesus IS the last covenant. That’s why in HIM we have everything and outside HIM we have our own efforts all by our lonesome – in other words, nothing (Jeremiah 31:31-34, Luke 22:14-23, John 15:1-17).
Jesus IS the New Covenant. It is between Jesus and His Father. It is a perfection of all other covenants. Keep His Covenant and you’ll keep ALL the others. But WE can’t keep it. We don’t have it in us. If we did, there wouldn’t have been a purpose for the Law (which showed us how we couldn’t keep it and needed a Saviour to do it for us). The ONLY way to keep this Covenant is to enter into the one with whom it was made. To enter into Jesus. To be connected to Him. To die to our old self, crucified with Him, and be resurrected into His new life. “I have been crucified with Christ, and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So the life I now live in the body, I live because of the faithfulness of the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me” (Galatians 2:20). “For in him we live and move about and exist, as even some of your own poets have said, ‘For we too are his offspring.’” (Acts 17:28).
Since we are entering into this Divine Covenant, we are eligible – by staying in Jesus – for the benefits of it and bound by its restrictions. The restrictions? Obedience from love. There are only two commandments. Love Adonai before all else, love others as He loves us. Simple concepts. If we love, we’ll be obedient (John 14:15; 1 John 2:3-6). If we’re obedient, we’ll be humbly submitted to His will. Which means we’ll seek to do only what He shows us and say only what He tells us to. We are NOT sinners, but we have free will so we are not immune to sin. It is at the door and we are meant to put it down, not let it in (Genesis 4:7). If we submit to Adonai and stand on the Word, the devil WILL flee (James 4:7). But if we don’t, it will be sin (Romans 14:23) because EVERYTHING that isn’t done out of our trust (faith) in Jesus is done out of our trust in ourselves, which was the original rebellion. It’s a sin not to trust Adonai. Yet He is merciful, and we recognise our sin, truly turn from it, and repent with His help, we will be forgiven (1 John 1:5-10).
What are the benefits of this Divine Covenant? Everything. “Blessed is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms in Christ. For he chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world that we should be holy and blameless before him in love. He did this by predestining us to adoption as his legal heirs through Jesus Christ, according to the pleasure of his will—to the praise of the glory of his grace that he has freely bestowed on us in his dearly loved Son” (Ephesians 1:3-6). That’s a LOT. But He doesn’t deal with us solely in the spiritual realm. We are spirit beings (1 Thessalonians 5:23), but we are housed in this flesh. Just like Jesus, we have benefits here in this physical reality.
In Jesus and through His work on the cross we are free from the shackles and bondage of shame, toil (not work), unproductiveness, broken hearts, sin (death), poverty (joined with the ability to produce), sickness and disease (ALL illness), self-esteem, slander (false reputation), and our Adonai-called destiny (vision walking). He healed us of ALL negative things. Completely and totally. No scars. No vulnerability. No triggers. No bad memories. Total, absolute, and complete healing and restoration is possible in this Divine Covenant.
“When it was evening, many demon-possessed people were brought to him. He drove out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick” (Matthew 8:16). “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we may cease from sinning and live for righteousness. By his wounds you were healed” (1 Peter 2:24). ALL sickness. ALL wounds. Remember Jesus’ Anointing: “The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, because the Lord has chosen me. He has commissioned me to encourage the poor, to help the brokenhearted, to decree the release of captives, and the freeing of prisoners” (Isaiah 61:1). ANYTHING that inhibits your freedom is making you a prisoner. His Covenant sets you FREE in Him. This is not OUR effort, but by GRACE. Grace is the switch He flicks FOR us that turns on the current within our hearts and spirits to accomplish THROUGH JESUS what we CANNOT do on our own. It is a freely given gift of His INFINITE resources (spiritual {1 Peter 4:10-11}, mental {1 Corinthians 2:16}, and physical {Matthew 6:31-32}) because we are His obedient children.
Jesus is our Saviour because Jesus has been MADE the Covenant that brings us into relationship with the Father. In HIM we can stand before the Throne. In HIM we are the Righteousness of Messiah. If we remain in HIM, loyal to our trust (faith) that HE gave us (Ephesians 2:8–9). If we remain in HIM, loyal to our calling to Him by Him (Ephesians 1:4; 1 Corinthians 1:22-24). If we do this, Messiah Jesus becomes our ALL. “Think about the circumstances of your call, brothers and sisters. Not many were wise by human standards, not many were powerful, not many were born to a privileged position. But God chose what the world thinks foolish to shame the wise, and God chose what the world thinks weak to shame the strong. God chose what is low and despised in the world, what is regarded as nothing, to set aside what is regarded as something, so that no one can boast in his presence. He is the reason you have a relationship with Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification and redemption, so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord” (1 Corinthians 1:26-31).
When we remain loyal to Him, we continue to stand on the ground of our trust. He is the Rock on which we stand (Psalm 18:2). We have NO reason to move. He is our fortress and our protection (Psalm 91). He is our Merciful and loving Father. There is healing in His wings for ALL of us: body, mind, and spirit. Our mental restitution is provided in Him. No fear. No anxiety. No mental issues. No mental sickness. No mental deterioration. We can age without all that. I age, but I don’t break down. Not because of ME but of who I am in HIM. Because of what HE did. Am I perfect? Oh, no. I am applying my trust just like everyone else. And I am NOT going to give up because I believed when I prayed and ANY DAY NOW it will arrive. I may not even notice right away, that’s how sure I am that I already have it. This is HEALTHY territory. And it will STAY that way because I am loyal to my TRUST in He who did the work: Jesus! He FINISHED it. Amen and Amen. He did it. He offered it. I received it. I thank Him for it every day. You can too. We ALL can. The Word says so. Believe it. Receive it. Be loyal to it.
Daily Affirmation Jesus IS Messiah: Isaiah 43:11
“I, I am the Lord, and there is no deliverer besides me.” The Messiah would be the One and Only Saviour. There was only ONE way into the tabernacle. There was only ONE way into the Holy of Holies. There is only ONE Saviour. Only ONE way to the Father. Only ONE way into Heaven. It’s totally just and right. He created all things. He is OBJECTIVE. Outside Creation. Outside Humanity. HE can say how things are because He is not affected by things. He established the Way and did all the work to make sure we could get to Him. He made that way Messiah. “And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among people by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). What is that name? Messiah Jesus. “Jesus replied, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). Jesus is that Way. Not a Way of judgment, but of love. Compassion. Mercy. Grace. “For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world should be saved through him. The one who believes in him is not condemned. The one who does not believe has been condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God” (John 3:17-18). Jesus is the Way. The ONLY Way. Jesus IS Messiah!
