Take the Plunge: Genesis 2:2

(All scripture from the World English Bible, ebible.org, all rights reserved)

On the seventh day God finished his work which he had done; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had done.
Genesis 2:2

This is the ONLY day that does not end with a evening then morning postscript. This is the only day not defined by what was done in it, but by what had been done prior to it. By the time the seventh day began, God had already completed all that He was going to complete.

God did not rest because He was tired. He rested, because HE was done. Not that the WORK was done. The CREATIVE work was done. His part was done. Remember God told ADAM to fill the Earth. ADAM was told to multiply. ADAM was told to be fruitful. God’s part was done and so HE rested. Now humanity could do their part. This resting, then, was the completion of the provision of everything that humanity needed to do their part. After this point, God created NOTHING. He called forth from the possibilities He impregnated the heavens and the earth with. He changed stuff of the physical to different stuff of the physical. He brought stuff from the heavens to the earth (manna, for example). He brought things from His storehouse into the earth (oil and flour for the widow of 1 Kings 17, for example). But He created nothing new from nothingness once the seventh day arrived.

A key part of resting is the ability to sit back and rest because you have provided everything you need for the future. Now instead of building your house, you only need to decorate it. No more cleaning of land. No more putting up walls. No more wiring or door hanging. It’s all there and just needs to be gussied up. This is the rest God entered. This is the shadow of the rest Jesus provides to us. Jesus accomplished the thing and finished it. Now we get to engage it. We get to walk in it. This is echoed throughout scripture and we will come to it again and again and again. We don’t need to CREATE anything. We only need to COOPERATE with what God ALREADY finished. To take it and help it reach its full potential. Take healing. Jesus released healing through His ordeal on the cross. By His wounds, stripes, and bruises we WERE healed – it has been provided and finished. When we engage that. When we walk in it. When we allow that healing to come into us and drive out the sickness, we are COOPERATING with what Jesus ALREADY did, letting the health He provides come into its full potential inhabiting our healthy bodies. HIS POWER active because we submit and engage what He offers out of what HE finished.
