Fear No Fear

“Mahalalel lived sixty-five years, then became the father of Jared. Mahalalel lived after he became the father of Jared eight hundred thirty years, and became the father of other sons and daughters. All of the days of Mahalalel were eight hundred ninety-five years, then he died.“
(Genesis 5:15-17)

Jared means descent, from the verb ירד (yarad), to descend. He was the the great-great-grandfather of Noah.

Adam was 395 when Mahalalel was born. Mahalalel was 535 years old when Adam died and 592 years old when Mahalalel’s grandson Enoch was translated. He was 661 years old when Noah was born. Mahalalel died 55 years after his father (at the age of 895) and 360 years after Adam died – which was 1,290 years after Adam and Eve were taken out of the garden.

Like everyone else, Mahalalel also had other sons and other daughters during his long life.
