“For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son, how much more, being reconciled, shall we be saved by His life” (Romans 5:10, MEV). Jesus’ love for us is not performance based. NOTHING that we do can affect Jesus’ love for us. He performed the ultimate act of love while we were His enemies – complete sinners in total rebellion. AND He did it (for us today) before we were even born. He chose us before we were good OR bad. Before we were anything at all. Nothing we do can affect HIM. It only affects what we can receive from Him. If we don’t know Him, He can’t be our Saviour. If we reject Him, we can’t be redeemed. If we don’t understand His love for us, we can’t receive all the things that are part of salvation: health, wholeness, spiritual growth, emotional growth, relational growth, financial growth, etc. If we don’t believe He is empowering us and equipping us and offering to us all the blessings of the Kingdom, we won’t seek Him for that. We won’t open our hands to accept it. We certainly won’t engage them. So OUR focus and what WE believe and OUR obedience doesn’t affect Jesus’ love for us. It only affects where we are in Him. Are we rooted in Him as we should be? Are we seeking His face? Are we seeking the mysteries He hid for us? We are engaging His love by loving Him back in active obedience to our Lord, our Saviour, our Friend, our Groom, and our God? It is so very comforting knowing that Jesus loves us no matter WHAT we do. But it is even MORE comforting knowing that Jesus guides us, corrects us, renewed us, and teaches us to align with Him and His moral character so that we will WANT to obey due to our ever deepening love for Him. THAT is a blessing!
