“Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, having been built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, in whom the entire building, tightly framed together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling place of God through the Spirit” (Ephesians 2:19-22, MEV). God does more than promise to be with us (Hebrews 13:5). God makes His HOME in us. Merriam-Webster defines a home as the social unit formed by a family living together, a familiar or usual setting : congenial environment, the focus of one’s domestic attention, an establishment providing residence and care for people with special needs, and one’s own country. That’s something much more extensive than simply a place you hang your hat. From the moment of our salvation, God entered into us (Ephesians 1:13) while also transporting us into His Kingdom (Colossians 1:13). From that moment God has been working in us to perfect us (Philippians 2:13), to remake us into what He says we can be (2 Corinthians 3:18). He has taken up residence in us to make us His HOME. The more like Him we become, the more of Him we can handle. The more we know of His love for us, the more we let Him operate in and through us (Ephesians 3:14-19). He loves us enough to not just touch base with us, but to transform us piece by piece, day by day, into a vessel that can take more and more of Him. To perfect our relationship. To become a social unit together with Him. We are not only walking with God, we are becoming family with God. Not a family of flaws and rough edges, but a family of righteousness and glory: His glory. This isn’t something WE do, but that HE does in and through us. He becomes our rest. He becomes our social unit. He becomes our caregiver. He becomes our residence. He becomes our familiar setting, the Source and origin of all we are and have. From love, He brings us into His riches and His glory (Philippians 4:19). He doesn’t just remake us as new creations and creatures (2 Corinthians 5:17). He loves us into His family and makes His HOME in us.
