Take the Plunge: Genesis 11:20-21

(All scripture from the World English Bible, ebible.org, all rights reserved)

Reu lived thirty-two years, and became the father of Serug. Reu lived two hundred seven years after he became the father of Serug, and became the father of more sons and daughters.
(Genesis 11:20-21)

Reu died when Abram was 78 years old. He was among the people Abram was told by God to leave. In fact, including Serug, eight generations were alive when Abram was told to leave. Everyone from, Noah to Serug were all alive at the same time. Abram not only obeyed God in leaving the region, but he left his heritage as well – much of it still living.

As one man of God worked out, Reu outlived his father Peleg by 30 years BUT Reu died 161 years before his grandfather Eber, 100 years before his great-grandfather Salah, 70 years before his great-great-grandfather Arphaxad, and 132 years before his great-great-great-grandfather Shem.

I don’t know how the confusion of the world’s languages worked, but there is at least the possibility of a language line through these people which would provide incredible witnesses of world-shattering events. It is possible that the seeds of Abram’s great trust in the Lord came from hearing these stories. We’ll find out in heaven whether that is true, but it is an exciting possibility.
