“Listen! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and dine with him, and he with Me” (Revelation 3:20, MEV). A beautiful picture of salvation. Also a sobering picture of how we are to walk out our salvation. Jesus is calling us to a way of life. He calls to us, telling us the Father’s will. Holy Spirit calls to us, telling us about how we are to be trusting in Jesus. There is no confusion as to how we are to be retraining our minds to think. About how we are to be speaking. About how we are to be acting. About what we are to do with the revelations about God’s moral character in the Word. It is all easy to see, easy to understand. God makes it simple so that we will be able to grasp it. The hard part is the opening of the door and the dining. We are not called to sit back and let God do it all. Yes, God does the heavy lifting. But there is more to it than that. God got the ingredients, God combined them, God made the meal, God plated the meal, and God brought it to the table. But we have to take the portions He offers us. We have to cut it and bring it to our mouths. We have to chew and swallow. We have to digest it. There are things for us to do. We can’t leave Him outside. We have to open the door. We have to invite Him in. We have to get out of the way and let Him walk inside. We have to give Him access to the kitchen and dining room. We have to stay out of the kitchen and let Him do His thing. We have things to do as well. Jesus’ love for us is ACTIVE. It is FULL of BLESSING. But WE have to receive. WE have to obey. WE have to listen. WE have to align our thinking, our words, and our actions to His. Love is not stagnant. Jesus walked out His love for us. We are to do the same.
